Obituary of Tommy D. Millhollin

Tommy D. "Tom" Millhollin, 70 of Iowa City died Sunday, May 6, 2012, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 2012, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery where military honors will be provided. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Tom's memory. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Tommy Dean Millhollin was born November 19, 1941, in Iowa City the son of Kenneth and Selma (Hess) Millhollin. He was raised in Jefferson, Iowa and entered the United States Army in 1964. Following service he returned to Iowa and married Patricia "Pat" Auen on April 8, 1967, in Carroll, Iowa. Following their marriage the couple moved to Iowa City where Tom began a long career that spanned nearly forty years with the former H.P. Smith Company, presently known as Loparex, retiring five years ago. Tom enjoyed fishing, cross-stitching, painting ceramics and coin collecting. He recently received his 6 gallon donor award for donating blood, he donated as often as he could "to give back for when he was in need" as he would say. Tom was a man of patience, a jokester to anyone and everyone, a kid at heart, the MacGyver of making it work no matter what, and the eternal optimist on life, but most of all the best friend, brother, husband, dad and grandpa you could have! His family includes his three children, Jill Millhollin (Samuel Lockett); Mary Fairholm (Jeff); and Nick Millhollin (Emily) all of North Liberty; 10 grandchildren, Cierra Millhollin, Jacquelyn, Olivia, Ethan, and Brody Fairholm; Mack, Macy, Lainey, Lylie, and Kinsey Millhollin; Tom's siblings, Jean Mundorf (Bob) of Vacaville, CA; Steve Millhollin (Marilyn) of Franklin, TN; Kris McSpadden (Don) of Cedar Rapids; and Pam Hoffman (Larry) of Marion; several nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Pat; siblings, Joyce Marks, Linda Stangl, John Millhollin, and Mark Millhollin.
