Obituary of Richard P. Rider

Richard P. Rider, 76 of Iowa City died Friday, May 25, 2012, at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty. Funeral services will be held at 1pm Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery where Military Honors will be provided. Visitation will be from 11am until services on Wednesday at the funeral home. (Casual attire is encouraged by Richard's family) In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Richard's memory to Iowa Hospice @ 1615 2nd. Avenue, Muscatine, IA 52761. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Richard Paul Rider was born February 6, 1936, in Des Moines, Iowa the son of John T. and Mary (Paul) Rider. Their family moved to Iowa City in 1949 where he graduated from University High School in 1955. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy. On August 23, 1958, he married Lois A. Niemoth in Sheldon, Iowa. Richard worked for Oral B in Iowa City for 36 ½ years before retiring in 1997. He was an avid Chicago Cubs Baseball Fan and a strong supporter of the Iowa Hawkeyes. His family includes his six children, Jeff Rider of Iowa City, Richard Rider (Julie) of West Branch; John Rider (Rita) of Iowa City; Lori Seydel (Ted) of West Liberty; Lisa Krause of LaPorte City, IA; and Jill Good of Apache Jct. AZ; 19 grandchidlren, many great-grandchildren; and his sister, Jane McLean (Roger) Burns, OR. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Lois on January 4, 2009.
