Dear Family of Mel Schweer,
My parents, Margaret and Dean Keith were good friends of Mr. and Mrs. Schweer. My mother, Margaret Keith, worked as the office manager at Iowa Illinois Gas and Ellectric Co. for many years, and worked direcltly with Mel. She always commented that he was the most wonderful boss ever. Mel and his wife often visited my parents in their home in Solon, and I was lucky to meet and visit with them on several occasions. Mel always remembered my Mother with lovelly flowers on "Secretary's Day" or other holidays. Mel was a brilliant man, but never let his high intelligence make anyone feel inferior to him. My mother passed away several years ago, and at the end she also suffered of dimentia. I know Mel was a loving husband and father, and well liked and respected by many. My husband, Jim Washburn, also worked at Iowa Illinois Gas and Electric for many years. Jim passed away of lung cancer about a year and a half ago. He also spoke highly of Mel and how friendly he was to everyone. I'm sure Mel's kindness and intelligence will be carried on by his children. You have my deepest sympathy. Your memories of this wonderful man will help carry you though this time of grief and healing.
On behalf of the entire staff and city council of the City of Blue Grass, IA; our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
