I worked with Joe at the Hippee Oil Company about 36 years ago. At that time I had not worked outside the home for about 20 years and Joe made my transition to once more being an employee very easy. It was a delight to work with hm. I was responsible for posting accounts receivable charges and payments and if at any time the accounts did not balance I would search for the discrepency. If I could not quickly locate it, all I had to do was tell Joe the amount of the discrepency and he would say to me, "Look at ........" and there it would be!

I lost track of Joe, seeing him only occasionally after I quit work at Hippee. I am saddened to hear of his death and offer you my sympathy. May God give you comfort and peace.

Our family has so many fond memories of Joe, and all the Benda family. We are so blessed to have been involved in their Family through the love that Dorothy and Phil shared. Words can never express how much we enjoyed our time with Joe and his Mother and siblings. The card games were many, and learning cribbage with Joe and Don who could count your hand before it was even played was a bit intimidating....., but made us better players all the same. Though the distance has kept us separated, you Bendas have never been out of our hearts, and minds. There is no doubt there is a serious card game going on in Heaven, and Joe is probably cleaning the table. God Speed Uncle Joe. Bless you and all the Family.

Uncle Joe, We are glad we were able to visit you in early August, almost as soon as Lauren got off the plane from the UK. We shared ravioli and garlic bread sticks from Olive Garden and the gooey strawberry pie you had your heart set on. It was not homemade, but still good. We had a good time and told you we would be back to visit again soon. None of us knew then what we all know now, which is your final lesson to us enjoy every minute as a gift from above Love always, Mary Kay, Larry, Lauren, & Leah

For teaching me to check for money by looking down mostly done in fun while you were eating that special pre-Hawkeye game dip with Ruffle Potato Chips; you'd throw down the coins when we weren't looking and then smile and say what's that, are there more? And then you would laugh like crazy

For hiring my little brother Billy when he said he would do anything for a quawrter made for a great work ethic when he was old enough to really work

For always complimenting the cook and enjoying every morsel put before you you shared many a meal with great cooks

For calling and keeping in touch with me when I was too broke to make the call and keeping up with the calls to check in as our lives changed as we grew older and our children grew up

For teaching us to love a team and stand by them even when they were lousier than you ever imagined they would be

For teaching us that a deck of cards and money really can go together, if you play it smart

For loving to travel and taking us with you when you could or, at least, telling us where to go when we grew up

For always planning ahead to the next meal even before finishing the last bite of the meal you were eating. Your great niece, Leah, has really learned this lesson well

For trading sports statistics with the best of them and knowing just which teams were favored to win

For being so generous with us your entire life and adding those we love to your list to love, too we are so grateful you made the effort to attend Lauren and Ashton's rain forest wedding in Stillwater, MN. You got drenched being rolled to the covered patio and dried off with a big smile on your face

For teaching us to be faithful, kind, and trustworthy in our relationships with others

For teaching us that adversity can and does make us stronger

For loving each and every one of us no matter what

Sorry you have lost a friend - relative - loved one. My great grandmother was Anna Benda who married Joseph D. Eichler. Both born in Bohemia. Wish I had met Joseph.

I took the daily bus with Joe way back in the early 50's on corner of Church and Van Buren I think he worked at Phillips gas station back then. Corner of Gilbert and Burlington I had not seen him for years till found out a resident of LPCC. My brother in law is across the hall from him. He is at peace and home with the Lord...

Joe was a very special person who will missed by many. My deepest, heartfelt sympathy to each and everyone one he leaves behind. I'm confident that those who passed before were there to greet him.
