Bobby R. Lockeby

Condolences
I was deeply saddened to learn of Bobby's passing. One memory that remains vivid of our service in Japan was when Bobby's doctor recommended him for elective surgery. Bobby appeared sad when he returned to work, and it was then he told me that the corridors of the military hospital had been lined with the stretchers of soldiers that had recently arrived from Vietnam. Bobby was saddened because he rationalized that his elective surgery might have somehow deprived these brave and courageous soldiers from receiving timely and proper care.
It is so sad when someone like Bobby has to leave us. But I know for sure that the instant he passed he was with our Lord. That must be a wonderful feeling and sight to open your eyes and see God!!
In my earlier message, I failed to refer family members and friends to our Air Force squadron's web site, at www.6918thhakata.com . There, you can see at least one of the places where Bobby served his country, and see the same sights and faces he enjoyed. Also, we have added Bobby's name to our 6918th Memorial Taps video, which can be viewed at this web address: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSGKEqB8w6s .
Chris, May I extend our sincere condolences to you and your family. I never met Bobby but was happy to have had a few conversations with him concerning our effort in keeping connected our brotherhood of the 6918 Security Service, Hakata, Japan (1958 to 1972). Every newsletter I sent out, I wondered how Bobby was doing and made a mental note to give him a call when I finished the newsletter. As procrastination does, I am now too late. All of the guys that I've talked to at the reunions agree that Bobby was one of the finest men they knew, even at his young age in Japan. We keep a roster of the living and a Taps roster of our Fallen Eagles on which we reverently bestow the honor and respect that they deserve. When you are ready, let us know if you and/or your family care to view the material we have. Bobby is included in some of the photos. Again, I know Bobby was not well, health-wise, for several years and he is now at rest and peace but that does not fill the hole left in your lives. Please know that the thoughts and prayers of 700+ brothers of the 6918th members are with you and your family.
Stan Freymuth.
When my daughter was an infant, Bobby and Chris were our ministers. Bobby loved her, and would hold her in his arms during his sermon. Later when she married, he was unable to perform the wedding but he and Chris came and gave the couple a special blessing. Bobby was a very special blessing to everyone who knew him.
To the entire Lockeby family, and to those close to all of them, you have our deepest condolences.
My condolences to Chris, Brenda and Jessie. I will always have fond memories of our time spent at Light and Life church on Muscatine Avenue. Bob was very special to me and I am sad to hear of his passing. Over and over he generously gave of his time and love to those around him. I am certain he was greeted at heavens doors with these words, "Well done my good and faithful servant."
The Emde family has been blessed by knowing Bob and Chris Lockeby. They traveled to California to officiate in my brother Jim's wedding. They drove from Iowa to Virginia Beach in May 1993 to offer prayer at my retirement ceremony from the U.S. Navy. They were spiritual mentors to brother Joel before his passing from Leukemia in 2008. Bob was personally responsible for leading my father, Vernon Emde, to a relationship with Jesus Christ before he passed of cancer in November 1990. Our prayers go out to Chris and the Lockeby family. Sorry we will not be able to attend Bob's celebration but will be there in thought and prayer. I firmly believe that my Dad (Vernon) and brother Joel were there when Bob entered Heaven. May the Lord continue to bless and comfort Chris during this difficult time.
Bob and Chris were my sunday school teacher for a few years. I can remember always being so excited for church because I got to see Bob. He was a role model to me and helped me love God just as much as he did. He will be dearly missed. I remember one day he gave me a pair of earring he had made for me. I still to this day have them. My thoughts and prayers go to the family. <3>
