Obituary of Kent Curtis Smith
Kent C. Smith, 58, of Cedar Bluffs, died at his home Tuesday, October 2, 2012 of natural causes.
A gathering for family and friends to remember Kent will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, October 7, 2012, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Kent Curtis Smith was born March 2, 1954, in Iowa City the son of Frank and Gloria (Lewis) Smith. He graduated from City High School and worked construction for most of his life. He was married to Debbie Bieri of Nichols, Iowa. Soon after graduation from high school he worked for his step-father's construction company, Hunzinger Construction. He then worked for more than twenty years for Knutson Construction as a foreman and superintendent. He was responsible for overseeing multi-million dollars projects such as the Papajohn Building and several additions to the University Hospitals. Kent spent weekends boating on the Cedar River, taking in the beauty that surrounds us in Iowa, and attending gatherings with family and friends, He loved watching races on Sunday while hanging out in his shed and rooting for the Hawkeyes every fall weekend.
His family includes his wife, Debbie; brothers and sisters, Kim (Benno) Lotz of Germany, Mark (Kelly) Smith of Iowa City, Mike (Judy) Hunzinger of Scottsdale, AZ, Tom (Margarite) Hunzinger of McGregor, and Christine Hunzinger of Newton; his three sons, Jesse Smith of Iowa City, JT Beal of Des Moines, and Chad (Kris) Wright of Nichols; granddaughter, Emma Wright; several nieces, nephews, and many friends, all whom will miss him dearly!
