John D. "J.D." Wendling
1918 - 2012
Condolences
Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. We never like to see our loved ones go. Your dad had the best smile, always so friendly. After you moved I would still see him around town and he was so kind. What a great life he had. Thinking of you!
To the Family of John Wendling
I started working in the Rath Cattle Buying Department in 1961 as a trainee cattle buyer. John was one of my mentors. I made it as a cattle buyer and continued on another 10 years after Rath closed with Tom Carleton, Duane Miller, and Ray Mumm at American Beef Packers in Oakland, Iowa. There are not many of us left.
John was always a fine gentleman and John was my friend.
God Bless............ Loren Lorenzen Traer, Iowa
My condolences to J. D.s family. He was one of the nicest persons I have ever met. My memories of John go way back. I lived on the original Wendling farm at Independence, and I can recall him coming there to buy my dads cattle. Also I recall him being a livestock judge at the Buchanan county fair, and judging my 4H calf among others.
Sorry for your loss. John was one of the nicest persons to work with. He'll be missed.
Kathy and Dick, sorry to hear of your father's passing. 94 sounds like a good age to me! Hope all is well with you otherwise. We are living in Chicago and Honolulu now.
Jim & Chris, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your father. What good memories I have of him and your mom. Both were always friendly, sincere and kind to me whenever I seen them. Your parents set the mark as to what a marriage is all about. It appears that they lived a good, happy and healthy life. They were both true Hawkeye Fans.
Again my condolences to you both.
Mike - Kathy, Jim & CHris - Wanted to know how sorry we were to learn of your Dad's passing. He was a very nice fellow. Wanted you to know that although I seldom dream a couple nights ago - Judi & I were in Van Buren Co., IA at a restuarant - when we walked in there was your Dad and Mother eating dinner with an older man who we were introduced to by your Mother. Don't recall the name. Your parents were doing just fine

Got the e-mail sent by you. I am very sorry to hear about John Wendling. I had the privilege of working with JD for almost eight years. My wife Jaya and I had several get to-gather with JD and family. They were very pleasant, polite, sincere and friendly to us. I remember JD as to be very soft spoken, direct and helpful person whenever I approached him with any of my problems or difficulties whether regarding work or personal matters. I always considered him as my extended family member and sought his wise counsel during my stay in Burlington, Iowa from 1072- 1980. JD left a very deep impression on me and I recollect it with great pride and privilege. I am sure any person who came in contact with him will feel the same as I feel. During my life I feel he was one of the rare individual who impressed me the most. I do feel a very personal loss on his passing away. May God rest his soul in peace and all family members and friends to bear this immense loss.
My wife Jaya and I send our deepest heartfelt sympathies to the Wending family.

Jim & Chris,
Tina and I are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.
Hold tight to memories for comfort, lean on your friends for strength, and always remember how much you are cared about.
Take Care.

I will remember John being the first to be in the recreation room for our weekly Friday Mass. He was so dedicated to attending. I was able to anoint him a week ago even though he was asleep at the time. He sure was different that day. Before then it was he who would always be walking all over Crestview all the time.
I enjoyed our talks. The last Mass he attended was for Mabel Baker, another long term resident, on the day of her burial. For the faith community at Crestview Death is nothing to be afraid of, nothing to fear, but nothing to ignore. We gather each week not just to remember those who have gone before but to strengthen each of us for our inevitable following.
Kathy, Mike, Jim, Chris and Families..
It is with sadness I extend my deepest sympathy on the death of your father, John JD' Wendling.
Many fond memories of times together in Waterloo, Iowa with the Wendling/Saunders Families throughout the years; and, visits to Mardy and JD' at their home in Burlington, Iowa reminiscing of days past.
My heartfelt thoughts are with you and your families during this difficult time; and, my prayers are with JD' and Marty (my Confirmation Sponsor) for eternal rest. A mass in remembrance of your parents will be read at St. Edward Catholic Church, Waterloo, Iowa from the Saunders Family.
Love,
Susan Saunders

Mike and Jim, I feel so lucky in meeting you both and our friendship in Iowa City. We traveled to visit your father one weekend, he was very kind and so down to earth. Hope we all get to the same spot eventually, Charlie
