Allegra G. "Allie" Dane
1927 - 2012
Condolences
It was always an honor to see Allie. My children were saddened when I told them the animal lady had died. They remember some of the trips we made out to the farm to see the animals. Thank you for sharing her with the whole community.
John and family,
Allie was such a devoted and caring person. She was full of energy and her enthusiasm was contagious. She will be missed by many, but always remembered. You have our deepest sympathies and prayers.

I just found out about Allie's passing and just wanted to let John and the entire Dane family know that she will be greatly missed. John and Allie were friends of my parents but I got to know them better as a employee at Dane's Dairy for several summers in the mid 80s. Allie & John attended my wedding in 1996 and I considered Allie more than my boss, but also a friend.
There are many wonderful things to remember about Allie, but what I will personally remember the most would have to be her wonderful smile and laughter. Although I moved from Iowa almost 25 years ago, I return for a visit every summer. Now I bring my three 9 year olds back to the Iowa City area and part of our annual tradition is to head over to Dane's Dairy for a yummy treat. Even my kids think Dane's has the best ice cream! It seems we are always lucky to run into Donna when we are making our ice cream stops, but on occasion in the past, we were also lucky to run into Allie at the Dairy. The last time we saw Allie was two summers ago on a sweltering July day, when we saw her at the Johnson County 4H Fair staying cool, sitting in her air conditioned car while Donna dished out homemade ice cream! Every single time we saw her, whether it was at the Dairy, the fair, or at her home where my kids were treated to a personal farm animal tour many years back, Allie was always in such a cheerful mood. Her cheerfulness was definitely contagious.
We're thinking of the Dane family here in Denver, Colorado. And as long as Dane's Dairy stays open, you'll see us there in the summer! Prayers to you all...
Allie's generosity and hopitality will always be remembered.
My funeral epitaph:
There is no set definition of a good life; but if there is an accounting of the number of smiles you share, the number of times you say "I love you" to a family member, the number of meals you prepare and serve to family, old friends and new friends, the number of children into whose hands you place a kitten, a puppy, a baby chick or a free ice cream cone, or the number of doggie dishes of ice cream you give away, then there is a special place in heaven for Allie Dane.
Donna and family,
ALLEGRA GARDNER DANE
A true role model for caring and compassion. She will be missed, but good memories of her life with us will be forever.
This season of thanks affords a great opportunity to give thanks for Allegra's great life of sharing and giving. Blessings on her fine family. Your loss is shared by many of us.
Dane family,
Dearest Peggy and Dane Family,
I know you all have been through a very long and stressful journey. I just pray that God will wrap his loving, caring and healing arms around all of you and all of your family during this sad time.
Wedding funerals, reunions, good times on the farm, Dane ice cream, the petting zoo and even our dog Junior, and so many more shared times make up our memories of Allie. Her winning smile and generous heart were irresistible. She lived a life of giving to others making people comfortable and affirming their worth. Allie will be remembered warmly by the many people she touched. To cousin John and the wonderful family that you and Allie created, our love and heartfelt sympathy as you cope with this loss in your lives.
Dear Dane Family:
We have many fond memories of visiting John and Allie at the farm and at the dairy! Allie was a wonderful cook and hostess and always made time to welcome you and visit no matter how many other guests were around. She was a fantastic gardener and role model for her children and all other young people in the community! We know you all will miss her deeply but also know that she is at peace now. May you find strength and comfort with each other in the days and weeks to come.

I was so saddened to hear that my Aunt Allie had passed away after such a wonderful day with the family gathering to celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas with her entire family on Sunday. The Lord blessed all of them with laughter and fellowship and that beautiful family picture!
John and family we will always remember Allie's out going manner and always ready with a smile for everyone. Our son also worked at the ice cream store. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Memories are wonderful things.

I had so much fun visiting the farm, jumping on the trampoline, and eating ice cream at the Dane's Dairy. Your entire family will always hold a special place in my childhood and in my heart. Allie, thank you for all of the great memories!
I have fond memories of Allie helping me as a youg cub scout and working with me and Jim to prepare for the Scout Jamboree at the Fieldhouse. Allie was always a supportive friend to me and my family . Her generosity and warm smile will be missed by all. I am blessed to have known Allie and all her family. My most sincere condolences to everyone.
9 or so years ago- I was answering customer calls for FaucetDirect (Build.com)- the company I still work for today. I was helping a customer find the perfect faucet for her home - and when it finally came time to take her order, I discovered her shipping address was Iowa City. I asked if she'd ever been to Dane's Dairy - and she said "Of course!!! That Dairy is an icon in this town and Allie is everyone's favorite person" When I told her Allie Dane was my aunt - she felt honored to meet a "true" relative. See- She was of the belief that she was "Aunt" Allie to the entire city!!! I believe it!!!!
When we surprised Allie and John for there anniversary. I will remember how friendly she always was and the last time I saw her at the Farm Buerau meeting, This past year. I know that she will always will be smiling down on her family members. We will miss you Allie. In Peace and Love Karla
I have many fond memories growing up in the neighborhood. It was all around the 4-H clubs of the West Lucas Whirlwinds and the Junior Jets boys club. I used to walk accross the field from my home, Everett Williams Farm to go stay over night with Janet Dane. We used to go down the lane and jump on the trampoline at John & Allie's house. Then there was the ponie rides around the yard. Time always flew when you were having fun.
May you find peace in quieter moments of all the happy memories you shared as a family. May God be with you and my deepest sympathy in the loss of a remarkable lady.

John and family I offer my prayers in this time. Mothers are an important part of out lives and we remember them always.
Dane Family you are all in our prayer's. God Bless You All.
Allie was a very dear family friend of ours and we will miss her infectious smile the most! She was one of my grandmother's best friends and I am at peace knowing that Grams has a dear friend in heaven with her now. I can just see the two of them starting up a women's bridge club! She was a wonderful woman who has touched many lives. We will continue to pray for strength for your family as you go through this painful loss. Sending all our love your way.
From the time we first met them in 1974 to today the Danes have made us feel like part of their family. Allie was such a warm, giving person.
We love her and will miss her.
Because of the miles between us, I only had the opportunity to be with Allie a few times in my life. I knew her to be a generous and welcoming soul, devoted to her family and her community. She had that natural curiosity, an "I'm game for anything" quality, and sought to make connections with everyone she met. Her family, and all of her extended family, will truly miss the lovely light that she was in this world. I am so grateful that she enjoyed such a wonderful, last week.
Allie and my mother Barbara were the best of friends since their teenage years. They would talk all the time, our phone line would be busy for at least an hour a day with the two of them laughing, and when my mom and Allie laughed, everyone laughed!! My father always said mom and Allie were big women, but Allie Dane's heart was what was the biggest. I have a childhool memory of Allie coming to one of my parent's Halloween parties. She only wore a white sheet wrapped around her and black dots drawn on her chest...she was Lady Godiva and those were the bugs that got squished on her chest on the ride over! Needless to say she was the entertainment for the evening. I know that Allie and my mother have already hugged each other tightly in heaven, and I can hear their laughter, I always will.
I would like to extend my condolences to the family. I so enjoyed Allie's friendship and bridge parties. She will be missed by everyone. Carl and Sally Fink
John and family --
May the Lord's Peace be with the entire Dane family at this difficult time in your lives. I hope over time the pain of her loss will ease and be replaced with the joy of her memory.
Since my first memories, every get to together included your Mom. In the last year, the world has lost 2 of the greatest mothers. I feel as though I have lost a second one today. Know that my sympathies are with you for your loss.
Ya Jack, they're yacking up a storm catching up on lost time, and you know they have cards in their hands.
In this Thanksgiving Season, we give Thanks for the life of Allie and for all she did for other people to bring comfort to their lives. This was especially true for me when my mother died and Uncle John and Aunt Allie were a source of tremendous strength and comfort for me.
We go back along time, from babysitting the children when they were young to being my mentor. We will always have great and loving memories. You made many, many people happy. Rest in peace, AllieXzX
So sorry to to hear of the passing of Allie. I remember so many years ago spending time at the Dane farms, going to school with Janet and Bob Dane. So many trips to get an ice cream cone on a warm summer eve, with my late mother, Nettie Berven and my sister Sonja Berven Zeithamel and her family. Allie was truely a warm, kind and very special lady. Prayers with you all at this difficult time.
John and Dane family,
our sympathy is extended to the dane family today. warmest hugs.
Dear Family and Friends of Aunt Allie,
I'm saddened by the passing of Aunt Allie and am thinking of you during this difficult time. I know that she is smiling in Heaven, that beautiful easy smile that always lit up her face and the entire room. While we will have some very tough days ahead, I know that the loving and happy memories of her will sustain us and lighten our hearts. She would want us to smile too and, as always, cheer for her beloved Iowa Hawkeyes.
Much love, Jane
