Deborah Kay McKiness was born May 23, 1953, in Rochelle, IL the daughter of Reverend John C. McKiness and Wilma L. (Sahs) McKiness. She attended schools in Hinckley, Illinois graduating in 1971 from high school. She went on to receive her nursing degree from Moline Public Hospital of Nursing in 1974. She has continued her education throughout her career advancing in the fields of coronary care nursing, surgical care nursing, and operating room nursing. She started her career at Moline Public Hospital in 1974, a career that took her from Moline, to Hyden, Kentucky; Rockford, Illinois; Hanover, New Hampshire; Iowa City, Fridley, Minnesota; Robbinsdale, Minnesota and back to Iowa City where she has been on staff at Mercy Hospital since 1991. She loved nursing, only second to that of being Mom, she was there to support her children in all of their endeavors, no matter what it took!
Deborah was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, where she sang with the choir for years. She enjoyed reading, doing needlework, cooking, and sharing her passions through the political processes that our country allows, she wasn't always a quiet Lutheran!
Her family includes her children, Miriam Thoe of Solon, and Nathaniel Thoe of Iowa City; brothers and their wives, John P. McKiness and Janice of Coralville, and James D McKiness and Heather of Cedar County, IA; several nieces and nephews; and her Mia, her faithful four legged friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilma McKiness and the Reverend John C. McKiness, and Gina, one of her dearest pet friend that ever walked with her on this earth.
