Obituary of Rodney K. Evans
Rodney "Rod" K. Evans, 76, of Parnell, died peacefully at home, Tuesday, January 23, 2013, after a lengthy illness.
A time of gathering for family and friends will be held from 1-3 p.m., Monday, January 28th at the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City where military honors will be rendered at 3. Burial will follow at the Hardin Township Cemetery near Windham. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Rod Evans Memorial Fund and will be used to support various veterans' originations.
Rodney Keith Evans was born June 20, 1936, in Johnson County, Iowa; son of Russel James and Zella (Stimmel) Evans. During the Korean Conflict Rod served in the U.S. Marine Corps, later served as a Coralville Police Officer, drove truck for Scully, owned a Tavern in Colorado, drove truck for LL Pelling in Iowa City, served as a security guard in Riverside, Edgewater and Colorado Belle in Nevada and more recently was a paper courier for the Iowa City Press Citizen.
In his youth, Rod raced motorcycles, stock cars, and played semi-pro basketball. He loved to hunt, fish, and garden; but most of all gold prospecting. Later in life, Rod developed a talent as an artist.
His family includes his wife, Pauline (Rangel) Evans and his 6 step-children, Della Hernandez (Rick), Jerri Cullar, Joe Chavez all of CO, Rita Chavez of AK, JoAnn Koncham of IA, Jack Chavez of OR; adopted son, Andy Rangel (Phillipines);
His former wife, Marge Simpson, and their four-children Donna Delzell (Raymond) of Washington, IA, Jim Simpson of Des Moines, Tim Simpson (Melanie) of Hills, Karen Stufflebeam (Mike) of Cedar Rapids; 27 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Bonnie Evans and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rod was preceded in death by his parents, Siblings, Dean Evans, Bob Evans, and Louise Lewis, nieces, Sherry, Becky and Peggy and nephew, Mark.
