Betty M. Sedlacek

Condolences
Thoughts and Prayers for your family.
Betty was a good friend to my mother, Helena Costolo Ipsen. My mother always enjoyed her company and funny stories. After my mother's passing Betty wrote a beautiful note to me congratulating me on a new position I attained in my professional career as an Elderly Housing manager. The note was one of encouragement and pride as if my mother was reaching down from heaven. This random act of kindness was a good example of Betty's character, lovingly acting on another's behalf as she took pen to paper. How could she have known it would have such an impact and mean a great deal to me? That is the kind of person she was, always caring and nurturing others.
Sorry for your loss. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
WOW, Betty was a Beautiful and Amazing Lady who Loved Life and her Family and Friends so Much. I don't beleive she ever met a stranger and she made everyone feel welcome in her Home, she preferred that you be hungry when you stop to see them..
She and Don raised all their Sons to be just as Nice as they were. We Love Everyone of them and their Beautiful Families.
Love'n HAPPY TRAILS to all!!

I LOVE YOU
WE WILL MISS YOU!!!!!
I was born in 1964 in Iowa City and went through the same schools as Betty, finishing up at City High after Donny. He was an Upper Classmen and didn't really seem to notice that I was an underclassmen. He, his mom ( Betty), and all his brothers, always treated me way better than I deserved, and I don't remember how I ended up going out to the Sedlacek farm in the first place. The crazy thing for me was I was welcome there from the first day I met them. Betty made me feel like family from day 1. I went out to the Sedlacek farm and worked hard along with the family and friends for what seemed like many years ( a day can seem to equal weeks, possibly years, on the farm). The Sedlacek's adopted me and treated me really well. Betty, Jim, and the brothers were always looking after me and giving advise that I really didn't understand until later in life. (They always gave me the benefit of the doubt). I have bailed hay, welded in the shop, fed hogs, and I am not willing to admit some of the other things. During my 4 years in the Army I was comforted and based by the fact that I always had a place to go no matter what. I knew the farm was there if I needed a place to be. The Sedlaceks are a family that live by the word, and I am confident that I will see Betty when my time comes. I have gone from a kid who probably would have gone astray to a veteran of the Army, a foster and adoptive parent with more than 50 kids coming through our house, a father, and a grandfather of 8. (so far) My wife of 18 years and I have adopted three beautiful girls, the youngest is almost three. The basics for living life well I learned out at the Sedlaceks farm. Hard work, Enjoy the good times, stand up for whats right, and stand by the people you love. I am 51 now and am so appreciative of the time and memories I had with the whole Sedlacek family. I don't know how I could ever return the favor and grace that Betty and her family have given me. In Love, Mars
I am so sorry for the loss of your loved one. With sincere sympathy,Sheila.
I'll always remember coming over and playing in the barn, ice skating on the pond and playing pool in the basement when we were growing up. Betty was always there with a smile and "how ya doin" as we ran through. She will be greatly missed.
Dick and family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I really enjoyed talking with you last night and laughing. I'm pretty sure our parents (especially my dad) are up there talking about what we are doing or aren't doing and not digging the new HyVee coffee area. I have a feeling the group would have been moved to the Mercy Cafeteria if dad was still around.
Sorry to hear of your mom's passing. Heaven has gained another great lady. I have much admiration and respect for the Great Generation.
To the family of Betty,
Although it's difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, may looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow.
I remember Betty from the dances when I played in various bands, always friendly and had that smile. I thought it was pretty neat to chat on Facebook with such a young lady!
Cherish the memories!
To the Sedlacek Family,

Jason, so sorry about your loss. My prayers are with you during this difficult time. Sending hugs.
Betty was such fun! Loved emailing with her. I knew if I ever had a question about family she would know! I remember visiting the farm when I was a kid, and my children all went to school with hers. I know her family and friends will all miss this great lady.
My main memory and thought would be although I only met Mrs. Sedlecek once or twice, she must have been a good mother because her boys I knew were all well adjusted, happy, industrious young men. It's been 20 years since I've lived in Iowa City, but I hope to run into them sometime when I am in town and give my condolences then.
Dan, Bill, Chuck all the Sedlacek Family you are in our prayers. I will never forget and I still have the first card sent to me after I donated my kidney to my sister Jeannie that Betty your loving mother sent to me, She was a amazing lady and very well liked. Keep the good memories in your hearts forever. God Bless You All.
To all my Sedlacek family----so very sorry to have read of Betty's passing from Lisa. This really hurts my heart as I know it does you all. I had some really good Facebook conversations with her, she really could make me laugh and I will forever miss those. About a month ago while planning my own funeral with brother Ted at Lensing's, I was talking to Michael Lensing about Betty's failing health and he had tears in his eyes, he so adored her. Please remember she is with your Dad now and in a wonderful, beautiful perfect place of no pain. I told her I have visited Donald's grave and now it will be both of theirs as I visit with the rest of my family also. My wish for you all is that with time may it heal once again all your broken hearts! Take care of each other. God bless!!!!!!!!!!!!! Betty-you're the greatest and I miss you, forever and ever!
To Denny, Lisa and families, I was so sorry to hear of Betty's death! I did not know Betty personally but her daughter-in-law Lisa would talk about her a lot and what a great, hard working woman, mother and fantastic cook she was, so of course I felt like I knew her. She also was a great friend to my brother, Ed Madden who spoke so highly of her. After Ed's passing I talked with Betty on face book a couple times and never laughed so hard in my life as she told me in no uncertain terms what a a--hole he could be at times! Yet I understood they were quite the friends at one time when it came to doing funeral dinners and all!!! Sure wished I would have had the pleasure of meeting this dear woman! My thoughts and prayers are with all of you!!! Sandy Hora
