Met Gary at the Univ of Iowa. AKPsi Business Fraternity. Thoughts and prayers are with his family.
I had the great experience of working with Gary at the Tires Plus in Des Moines and Ankeny. We shared a lot of laughs and stories. Gary was very proud of his familiy and always talked about the wrestling days at North Polk which he loved and enjoyed. I am sure he will be missed by his family always knopw he was very proud of you!!!!
Gary and I were friends all through high school. Loved the purple duster - one summer Gary our friends Tom and Chris were hanging out and they decided to go rabbit hunting and said I could go. We got up early and headed out but I just couldn't bear to see them shoot the rabbits so I kept making noise so the rabbits would run away needless to say the boys wouldn't let me go again. Gary is such a great person and always so kind. He will be missed and my condolences to all his family.
Gary, I remember all the joking you always did during Study Hall! you will be missed by all!! Sincerely, Jane Bock Zwiener
So saddened to hear about Gary's passing and my thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. I remember well going into Hy Vee early in the morning and if Gary was working he would always greet me with a big smile and start my day off with a few good laughs. He had a marvelous sense of humor and could always lighten someone's day no matter their mood. This bighearted guy will be missed by many but he has left behind many beautiful memories for others to remember..
Gary and I went to school together and graduated in 1971. We would play penny poker in his parent's downstairs. I remember him for his laughter and his fun. I would see him now and then, both at Hy-Vee and riding his Harley. He always talked about his son 's family, and loved life. I will miss him. He went too soon.
As a teenager I gave my Big brother a run for his money. As a single mother Gary stepped in and loved my son and took him places and Josh spent weekends at Gary's eating pancakes. Through out my life my brother was always there with a kind word or sound advice. I miss you so much.
Wife and i just learned of this and are truly sorry to hear of his passing. And very sorry for your family's loss. We are part of the HOG chapter and have enjoyed his company a few times he is a great guy gonna miss talking to him.
Jason, you are on our hearts and prayers. We are so sorry for your loss.
I didn't know Gary well but enjoyed visiting with him every time I saw him. Whenever I went to Daylight Donuts with my sister he was in there. He was such a nice man and a great conversationalist. I will miss seeing him when I go in there.
I was shocked to hear of the sad news. My sincere sympathy to the family of Gary. My prayers and thoughts are with all of you. God Bless Gary and your family.
I met Gary in High school in 1968. We graduated together, were roommates on three occasions, were each others best man you could say that over 46 years that we knew each other pretty well. It is always sad to lose a lifelong friend. My sympathies go to Jason and the rest of the family. For those who knew him, he will be missed.
WOW!!! I am so saddened. Many employees of Carlos O'Kelly's were saddened to hear of Gary's passing. When he came in he always was a joy to talk to. He always had a great story about his family or trips. May peace be with you in your time of sorrow. Words can say how much Gary meant to me. Thanks Gary for being my friend. Bruce
Gary's fun-loving nature was infectious and he always managed to drag me to a party when I lived in Iowa City, even when I should have been studying. I'm really glad he did, though, as life is better lived with a good dose of play thrown in on a regular basis. Some will remember Maxwell's, Rudy's birthday party, and Space Coast Kids. John and I lost track of Gary for a while, but reconnected via Facebook. It was wonderful to see how overjoyed Gary was at the birth of his grandson. Gary introduced me to my husband, was best man at our wedding, and is forever woven into our family history.
So sad to hear about Gary's passing. We were classmates in the class of 1971 and I remember Gary well. I always thought that he had the best sideburns in the class our senior year! My condolences to all who knew and loved him.
I met Gary in the rec room at the Unicorn Club in Mission, Kansas, in the 1970s, where we enjoyed watching movies together, talked about our Iowa connections, and became friends. He insisted that I meet a girl he knew and arranged for a blind date, and Joice and I have been married for 36 years! Gary was always a dreamer and talked about how would have loved to own a hotel or campground somewhere and to have been his own boss. Gary and I had some crazy times on a vacation to Colorado before I got married, and in later years, he and Jorja moved to Colorado. While they were staying with us, looking for their own place, Jason arrived early, on our daughter's 2nd birthday. He will always be "Uncle Gary" to our kids, and our Best Man.
I am surprised and saddened by the loss of Gary! It happened so quick! Gary was a easy going fun person who will be missed by many. In the last few years Gary and I kept end in touch by sharing lunch. I will miss that. I hope he riding his Harley in Heaven in nice weather!
God Bless
Gary was a kind, generous, loving gentle soul. I will miss the times we shared, and the things we had planned for the future. I will miss his laugh, and the way his face would light up when he talked about Jason, Val and Aidan. He brought joy, laughter and love to my life and I will treasure that forever. He loved the Iowa Hawkeyes, riding his Harley and spending time with our friends. I will picutre him in an endless summer wind in his face, riding down a new highway full of promise and eternal life.
To all of Gary's family, you have my sincere sympathy, on the loss of your beloved Gary. Truly a wonderful person, someone I enjoyed visiting with, every working day. He wil be greatly missed. You are in my thoughts and prayers, and I hope that you find the strength, in midst of your sorrow, to remember ALL the GOOD times & moments shared, and the everlasting memories of a lifetime.
