Obituary of Frank E. Colony

Frank E. Colony, lifetime North Liberty area farmer, died Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at Windmill Manor Care Center at the age of 85. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Monday, May 13, 2013, at the North Liberty United Methodist Church with burial to follow at the Ridgewood Cemetery in North Liberty. Visitation will be after 9am Monday at the church and then additional fellowship during the luncheon following the graveside services. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Frank's memory to the United Methodist Church of North Liberty, or Johnson County 4-H Endowment Fund. Frank was born April 11, 1928, in North Liberty, the son of Charles Moreland Colony and Nellie Verne (Gordon) Colony. He attended P.S. #3 School in Penn Tswp, and graduated from University High School with the Class of 1947. On September 4, 1955, he was united in marriage to Margaret "Peg" Pearson in West Branch. The couple farmed together for over 50 years on the same farm where he was born and raised. He was a member of the North Liberty First United Methodist Church, Johnson County Farm Bureau, Mississippi Valley Farm Business Association, and former member of the Ridgewood Cemetery Board, North Liberty Optimist Club, and Johnson County 4-H, as well as a former Penn Township Trustee. He was an Ordeal Member in the Order of the Arrow through the Boy Scouts. Frank was named the 1960 Johnson County Farmer of the year. Farming and family were his life! His family includes devoted wife of 58 years, Peg and their children, Don (Kathy) Colony of North Liberty; Debra (Gary) Johnson of Murfreesboro, TN; Darla (Scott) Hardwick and Dean (Katie) Colony all of North Liberty; grandchildren, Jared Colony, Chandler and Hadley Johnson, Megan, Eric, and Alison Colony, Chris (Kate) Vos, and Amber Vos; and great-grandchildren, Peirce Colony, Elle Colony, and Anthony and Holland Vos. He is survived by his brother, Marion (Jean) Colony of Sonoma, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gordon Colony; sister, Eleanor Brewer; and grandson, Jeremy Phelps.
