John Phillip Ludwig was born January 16, 1951 in Galesburg IL the son of Walter and Edna (Rouse) Ludwig. Following graduation from high school in Galesburg he entered the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict. On December 10, 1983, he married Paula Sue Sweet here in Iowa City. The couple lived here for many years, John working some construction, was associated with NAPA stores, and the University of Iowa. They moved to North Carolina for a short period, back to Iowa City in 1995, and then to Solon in 1998 where they have resided since. John was a member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, and one of the founding members of Our Lords Church in Solon. John never quite grew up, he loved being the kid, and those around him loved him doing so. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, crocheting, and sharing his bounties with others, a more generous man would be hard to find! Rumor has it that he has crotchet enough afghans to cover the state of Iowa tip to tip. He was also a lover of animals, no matter the species.
His family includes his wife, Paula; sister, Pat Fugete (John) and brother, Terry Ludwig (Margaret) all of Viola, IL; numerous nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law, Linda Evenden (John) of Granite City, IL and Bev Sweet (Todd Lemke) of Solon.
John was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jim Ludwig.
