What wonderful memories of Tom as a Godfather and uncle.. I remember being at the "office." I was about 6 or 7. Dad was leaving the office for an appointment. I can remember really wanting a soda. Dad had told me he was putting something in the paper, he would be right back. Being the devious child I was, I heard the jingle of coins in Tom's pockets. I can remember asking Tom if he had any money? He smiled, grabbed me by the hand, taking me to the café down two doors. He bought me a burger, fries, and a soda. What an awesome memory for me. Tom was a generous man, but more importantly, he was a man of tremendous kindness.
I also remember being Confirmed at Nativity. Tom, being my Godfather, was also my sponsor in those days. I can remember the real fear I had. At that time, Tom showed me the tremendous Love and Trust, of the Holy Spirit.
Tom's gift to me, is an ongoing gift. Being the father of two kids on the Autism spectrum; I accepted, and continue to accept, the challenges presented to me. Tom taught me how to face challenges head-on, by trusting in God's Spirit. I believe I even joined the Navy because of Tom.
Tom, may the same Spirit. Guide your ship to Heaven's shore.
