Obituary of Calvin D. Freese

Calvin D. Freese, 68, of Solon, died Thursday, July 18, 2013. A time for friends and family to gather will be from 3-4 p.m., Saturday, July 27th at the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Inurnment with military honors will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Solon. Memorials can be made to the Calvin Freese Memorial Fund. Calvin Dean Freese was born, April 17, 1945, in Sac City, Iowa; the son of Clayton and Audrey (Pennell) Freese. He served his country in Vietnam as a US Marine and later joined the 209th Medical Company, of the Iowa National Guard, in Iowa City, deploying again with Desert Storm. He worked 36 years at the University of Iowa Hospitals in the anesthesia department as an electronics technician. Calvin never knew a stranger; his was a pleasant person to come across if your paths ever crossed. He loved his time on his Goldwing, and especially time spent reading a good book. Calvin married Margaret Ann Stephenson on April 17, 1981, in Iowa City. She passed away in February of 2008. Calvin was also preceded in death by his parents, and eight siblings. Calvin will be missed by many including his family; sons, Toby (Angela) Freese of Ainsworth, Iowa and Daniel Freese of Arizona; granddaughter, Nicole Copeland; grandson, Noah Medulan; sister, Jaree Lewis of Wheatland, Wyoming and many friends & neighbors.
