Charles J. "Chuck" Stubbs
1949 - 2013
Condolences
As a Pitcher Chuck had a great fastball which smoked alot of batters on that third strike.
Rest in peace Chuck, a friend, a loyal club member, a personal friend to us all. You went to more efforts to fish with your friends than anyone else could even imagine. I think you made more tournaments from St. Louis over the last few years than most of us local guys. You did all this to be with your friends in the Hawkeye Bass Club. We will never forget you. Bill
We would like to offer our condolences. Chuck was a good peace officer and will be missed by many people. May he rest in peace.
My thoughts are with Chucks family at this time.
Chuck was a good friend. I will never forget his laugh when he told me a funny story about fishing. He inspired me to fish when my life could have gone down a dark path, for that I am forever grateful to him. Good fishing to you CJ.
Had the great pleasure of working along side Chuck in St. Louis (STT Security)--as we always said at the plaza--any questions call Chuck! Glad to hear that Chuck made it back to Iowa to explore the next chapter in his life. He was clearly at home there...
Always enjoyed having him in Coralville, growing up with him and on the CPD. He was such a force to contend with. He will be missed.
RIP Chuck, you will be remembered always. You were one of the brave individuals out there who was always there to serve and protect our community. You will be missed.
Larry and I both knew Chuck from law enforcement. Anyone who was in law enforcement in this area in the 70's has a Chuck story! We were both glad to know him and sorry to hear of his death. Prayers for comfort and peace.
Happy Birthday to my dear brother
...You were so looking forward to your move to Iowa City and the family reunion that you were planning...Guess it was time for you to reunite with Mom and Dad, Candy and Strider and all the others we have loved...I am glad that we were able to reconnect over the last few years and spend a few hours "fishing" on those slots in Vegas and Palm Springs...Thanks for all those times growing up that you let me borrow your car, nothing like being 16 or 17 and driving around in a 71 Ford Torino GT Convertible!!
Ward, Barb, and families
I remember Chuck from years ago as he was a classmate of my brother. He always tried to be so mean but deep down he was a gentle giant. We all grew up and went our separate ways but thanks to Facebook were reunited once again. Chuck could tell stories or correct us when we were wrong in our Iowa City history. He knew a lot about Iowa City and gave us insight as to what was where, what kind of cars people were driving, or just good old City High/Iowa City stories. We all know that he was excited about moving back to Iowa City, the town he called home. Unfortunately, as we all know, death parted us. To the Stubbs family, you are in our thoughts and prayers. To our gentle giant, Chuck, Godspeed, and may you rest in the graces of God's loving hands.
RIP my friend... You were a great training officer for me. You were ahead of your time!

To The Family of Chuck Stubbs ~
It's been a great pleasure working with Chuck over the past several years. He was nothing but professional and dedicated to his work. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family - STT will have some BIG shoes to fill - RIH Chuck
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Chuck and I spend many nights keeping the streets of Coralville safe.
My personal condolences to the Stubbs Family on the loss of Chuck. What a nice guy! I met Chuck in the Fall of 1964 as a Sophomore at City High in Iowa City. We have been friends since then. I rode in his old Chevy in High School, and rode in my 63' Pontiac. Friends ever since. Chuck always made it to our class reunions, and he was there just last Summer for our 45th. Big Ol' Chuck is now in the hands of our Lord. HE will know that he has a ' good man' in Chuck Stubbs.
We notified all Classmates of Iowa City High School Class of 1967, and on behalf of the ICHS Class of 1967, we wish the Family well, and for you to be advised that Chuck will always be a proud member of the Class of 1967. Always.

Rest in Peace my friend. I was looking forward to that coffee next week. You are home now. I will miss you greatly. I look forward to the day when we will greet each other again.
May God hold you close, as those of us who considered you friend will hold close memories of you.
My sincere condolences on the loss of your brother. I was a high school classmate of Chuck's who has kept up with him mainly in the later years through our high school reunions. I had some interesting conversations with him and enjoyed his point of view on the world. He seemed to relish these reunions and I am happy to think of the good time he had at our 45th reunion.
Ward & Barb,
Our sincere thoughts & prayers are with you & your families.
We ere very sorry to hear of Chuck's passing.
Sorry to hear of Chuck's passing. We worked together at CPD for many years. Chuck and I also fished together several times. I learned much from him at work, and on the water. I know that I speak for all Coralville residents, in thanking him for his servive to us.
I am so sorry to read about Chuck's passing this a.m. I have many wonderful memories of Chuck, Ward & Barbie.......and their parents, growing up in Iowa City. I loved the twinkle in Chuck's eyes when he smiled. I remember the pickled eggs on the back porch........never did find out how they were made! He will be missed. Thoughts and prayers go to Ward, Barb & families.
I extend my heartfelt condolences for your loss of Chuck. I first met Chuck in the early 1970's and had some wonderful and memorable times shared together as a co-worker. His ruby ring incident was always a subject to surface during recent conversations. Chuck was a kind of legend in his own right. He will be missed by many that knew him and worked with him.
Chuck - what can one say about him. He was a good, kind and caring man, that had an onry streak he'd let loose every once in a while. I knew him during my early 20's when I was still wet behind the ears and then many years later, we worked together at Old Capitol Mall in Iowa City. He was a professional in every sense of the word and often talked about his years on the Coralville Police Dept. I'm very sorry for your loss. Sincerely, Lisa Camacho
Chuck and I were in pictures together before I knew those pictures came from our EARLY birthday parties. We shared parents, families, overnights, stitches (thanks to a 'davy crockett swing' with old betsy), lego building blocks (sometimes we built houses, other time Battering Rams!), the front porch, carroms, time-out chairs, "puttin out the fire,' (boy thing), special pancakes, summer camps (army reserve style visiting our dads), jeep rides, picking slugs from the pistol range, Christmas parties (Cliff played Santa Claus), picnics, and more recently an occasional coffee and breakfast. I was looking forward to creating new adventures upon his return to Iowa City. Chuck was Chuck and I love him dearly. Along with Barbara and Ward -- they have been my 'siblings.'
My father, Tom Lyon, passed away in 1982, but prior to his death, I remember hanging out with my dad on weekends and us getting together with his friend, Chuck Stubbs. My dad thought of him as a younger brother and was very fond of him. Chuck was always kind and funny and pleasant and was a favorite of mine and my sister's among our dad's police friends. My sincere condolences go out to his family and his friends and community who will greatly miss him.
I remember Chuck well when he was on Coralville Police Dept. We shared alot of great times at the Red Stallion. Talked to him not to long ago and he was wanting to move back to the area. I am so sorry for your loss. God Bless You All.
I was shocked this morning to hear Chuck had passed away. Chuck was a wonderful friend to me and my family. My mom considered him to be one of her kids.
I was very sad to hear of Chucks passing. I was thinking that he should be calling any day to get together once he was back in Iowa City. I have known Chuck for about thirty years and always enjoyed hanging out with him he will be be missed by all he knew.
As a long time member of the Hawkeye Bass Club I had known and fished with Chuck many times. He was always the person who drove the farthest just to fish in our club tournaments. He will be missed.
My heartfelt condolences go out for the entire family.
Ward, Barb, Sharon and Family-
I want to extend my heartfelt condolences for your loss. I am sure that many in the community will share that loss with you.
Chuck has been a long time co-worker and friend. When I started with Coralville P.D in 1973, I first met him and I worked with him until he retired. I can truely say that I learned a lot from him as I was progressing in my career. He was in my office just 2 weeks ago and we discussed his moving back to the area and how excited he was to do so. He will be missed.
I have to say that I was stunned when I heard the news Saturday night. Roxie and my prayers will be with all of you during this difficult time.
