Obituary of Thomas W. Trent
Thomas W. "Tom" Trent, 86, of West Liberty, died Friday, August 9, 2013, at Crestview Care Center in West Branch.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Monday, August 12th at the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial with military honors will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Sunday from 1-4 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the Thomas Trent memorial fund.
Thomas William Trent was born July 16, 1927, in Cincinnati, Iowa; son of James and Ethel (Binns) Trent. He attended school and spent his childhood near Frytown. On February 1, 1952, he married Donna Hills, in Iowa City. Tom served honorably in the US Army during the Korean War with the 3rd Army Division, 114th Signal Battalion. Back in the States, he worked hard on the farm, working most of his life as a farm hand; he enjoyed and loved being on the farm. Tom retired from Louis Rich with 15 years of service. He and Donna lived near Iowa City before moving to West Liberty in the later part of their lives.
Tom was a member of the Odd Fellows and the Moose Lodge. He was a competitive card player, especially when it came to Euchre. He enjoyed horseshoes, cheering for the Chicago Cubs, Bears and the Hawkeyes and loved watching pro wrestling and his Westerns on TV.
His family includes his wife, Donna; daughters, Ethel Reimers (Richard) of Iowa City, Carol Gerot (Steven) of Dearborn, MO, Debbie Besgrove (Bill) of North Liberty, Teena Willits (Blaine) of Lathrop, MO and Brenda Nelson (Allen) of North Liberty; grandchildren, Eric Reimers (Dawn), Kim Reimers-Frantz (Curt), Kelly Gerot, Travis Besgrove (Julie), Jess Mancilla (Anthony), Jarod Kraft and Alex and Matt Nelson; great-grandchildren, Brock, Miranda, Drake, Libby, Aubrey, Tanner, Olivia, Caden , Mackenzie, Austin, Ellie and Brady; and sister, Aileen Costello of West Branch.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Betty Cook and Arietta Curry and a younger brother.
