Obituary of Betty Louis

Betty Louis, 88, went to be with the Lord Friday, August 9th as her family surrounded her at University Hospital in Iowa City. Her celebration of life service will be held at Parkview Church, 15 Foster Road, Iowa City, on Friday, August 16th, at 3 PM. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the services, and a time of fellowship and refreshments will follow the services there at the church. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Betty's memory. Online condolences can be sent for her family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Betty was born October 13, 1924. She was one of seven children born to Harry and Mina Morgan of Oxford, Iowa. Betty grew up on a farm near Cosgrove, Iowa. Following graduation from Cosgrove Consolidated High School, she attended Brown Business College in Iowa City. She was employed by University Hospital as a secretary in the Administrative Associate Office. Later she became a dental assistant and secretary to Dr. John Voss, dentist. She attended the University of Iowa where she studied music, pipe organ, piano, voice, and harp. She also received a Bachelor of Arts degree in art. Betty married Norwood 'Bud' Louis in 1950. They had two children, Gary and Shari. She was the church organist at Faith Baptist Church in Iowa City for 23 years. Bud and Betty are former members of the Iowa Mountaineers, and they traveled extensively in Europe and Central America. Betty was a member of the University Club Piano Group, Red Hat Society, Christian Women's Association, and Marion Avenue Baptist Church in Washington, Iowa. Betty's family includes her daughter, Shari (Jesus) Vazquez; grandchildren, Ben, Joey, and Nena Vazquez of Iowa City. Also granddaughter, Mary (Ben) Stoner and her namesake great granddaughter Betty Virginia Stoner of Maple Grove Minnesota. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Marie Louis of Coralville, Iowa and many wonderful nieces, nephews, and their children and grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Bud, her son Gary; parents, Harry and Mina Morgan; sisters, Mildred Davin, Bernice Corbin, Velma Thompkins, Corrine Mottet and brothers Bud and Jack Morgan. Betty was an extraordinarily influential and incredible woman who deeply touched all those she encountered. Her life of service, love, and dedication to the Lord leaves a powerful legacy to those she leaves behind. Betty a loving Christian, was a lady of great faith. Her passion was sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone she could. She loved people! 'Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved." Acts 16: 31. She looks forward to seeing you on the 'streets of gold.' The family of Betty Louis extends their most heartfelt gratitude toward the staff at the University Hospital as they bestowed immeasurable kindnesses as she transitioned from this life to the next.
