Orrie K. Rew
1915 - 2013
Condolences
I think of Orrie and all his family often; in fact, both Joyce and I mention him by name almost every time we golf. Our memories of playing with him and Ken are always joyful.
Mr Rew was a great wood shop teacher and softball coach. He taught me to refinish furniture. To this day I still enjoy it. He will be missed greatly. Good-by Mr Rew,thank-you for being you.
Leora and family,
I was so sorry to hear of your loss. Your Mom and Dad did indeed seem to be soul mates. When I would run in to them they were always so sweet and friendly and of course they were together!
You'll all be in my thoughts and prayers......
Pam
Rew family you are all in my prayers. Mr. Rew was a great teacher and always spoke to me when we passed at church or anywhere. God Bless You All.
God was good and gave me the opportunity to know Orra and his family. I didn't get to know him very long however, I will miss him. Praying the family will find peace in knowing Orra has gone to a much better place and is now able to do all the things he loved to do without pain.
My sincere condolences to all of the Rew family, friends and loved ones. Orrie was a great educator and coach; always a class act. I was fortunate to have known him and the Rew family while growing up and to have been a student in the Iowa City schools while Orrie worked there. May his family and loved ones take comfort in knowing that he lived so many wonderful years contributing to the community that he loved so much.
Norma and Family,
I am sorry for your loss.
My sincere condolences to the Rew family.
What a special man! I only wish I could have known him better.
Just reading this gives me a glimpse of what a wonderful life Orrie K. Rew led. Many cherished friends and family will miss Orrie. I have read of the many lives he touched. Until these lives are all gone and forgotten he will live on - for many generations to come. I am so thankful I had the opportunity to be a mere acquaintance of Orrie K. Rew. Deepest Sympathy to the Rew Family
Coach all the guys who played for you in Winfield will miss you. We will miss seeing you in Winfield when we come back for the reunions. What you did for me personally I'll always appreciate. Coach, we had a lot of good and exciting times together especially in 1949 and 1950. There probably are kids in Heavan that need coaching and I know you will be happy to help them.
My condolences to the Rew family on the passing of Orrie (Mr. Rew to me!). He was my basketball coach in 8th grade at Central Jr High, back in 1967-68.
We only lost one game that season and I believe it was in overtime! He was a fine man and very good coach---he had a great way of relating to his players.
Enjoyed seeing him in recent years (after moving back to IC) at the QB Club lunches. God bless Orrie.
Rob,
So sorry to hear about your dads passing. Our thoughts and prays are with you and your family.

Dear Robbie, Terry and the rest of the family. Sorry to hear of the passing of your dad. I know you have a lot of memories to share, that will help comfort your sad time. Take care. Sincerely, Diane Boyd
My condolences to the Rew family.
I took the Industrial Arts class Mr. Rew taught at Iowa City High School. He was such a great motivator with his students with his teaching instruction and guidance, he always had something good to say about your work project. Later after I had my own children Mr. Rew was kind enough to take time away from his retirement and give some pitching instructions to my daughter in softball. He must have been good because she was able to pitch for City High during her high school career.
Thank you Mr. Rew, you will always be one of my favorite teachers from my high school years.
Leora & Steve, I was very sad to read the news about your father's death. He lived a great life and led by example. Thousands of kids, like me, benefitted from his coaching. It is very hard to lose your father, be assured that he is now in a better place.
I was reading Mr. Rew's obituary. I was pleased to see he was in the CCC in the late 193 c0's. My uncle Joe was also in North Dakota and both he and my mother often proudly pointed out in the 1950s the trees he had planted near Valley City still growing and stabilizing hillsides. Thank you for including the CCC in the obituary. It brought back fond memories of a time long past.
My sincere symphathy to his family. In 1938, I was in one of Orie Rew's classes at Olds HS.
I am sorry my nephew Richard did not get to know his father earlier.
God Bles everyone..,

heaven received a great man!!! as I saw it he was dedicated in everything he did, including family, he was my history teacher.May God give you strength to endure this difficult time.
I never would have made it through my junior year at City High without Mr. Rew and his family's support. I send love and prayers .
Mr. Rew was my track coach while I was a student at Iowa City High School. He was always a very kind and and energetic man.
Dear Proud Decendants & Family of Orrie K. Rew,
I have fond memories attending his Industrial Arts class at City High. He taught me well. I got A's on my projects that were sometimes displayed in the showcase in the hall. He approached me in my senior year and suggested that I might want to teach Industrial Arts. I considered it, but never pursued that goal. The skills he taught me have been useful throughout life.
My dad golfed with Orrie occasionally after he retired. Dad spoke highly of him.
Orrie touched the lives of everyone throughout his life in a positive way.
My condolences to his family and friends.
Coach Rew is a tremendously kind, thoughtful and caring person. I remember my three seasons under Coach Rew at City High as some of the very best times of my high school running career. He created an environment that was competitive, yet encouraging, but more than that we were a family. He is an example of some of the very best in coaching and teaching. Coach Rew was there for us, and cared about us individually. The memories of those years and the fun times we shared have not faded. Coach Rew is the type of teacher and coach that many people returned to visit. I practiced with the team a few times during college at Iowa, because I missed that team connection. Fortunately, I was able to attend his 90th birthday Party and met some of his Winfield Basketball Players - what impressed me most was the span of his coaching years and the number of students he had impacted positively over those years.
Mrs. Rew, Terry, Ken, and the rest of the family:
My heart felt condolences on the passing of Orrie. There are many wonderful memories over the years when we were all just kids in Iowa City, then again when I taught with Orrie at City High, and finally in his friendship with my dad as part of the Fairview gang. Orrie always had a kind word for everyone and lived his life always making the other person feel good about themselves. It was good to see him at our 40th high school celebration and his smile was the same as when I remember him when I was young. As sons, daughter, and wife I know that your grief is in the moments of remembering how wonderful your dad and husband was. May God bless you and come alongside you during this time.
Mark Hogan
My fondest memory is hearing how both Norma and Orrie would welcome kids into their home on New Years Eve.
Norma and family
My deepest sympathies to all of you. Orrie was one of the dearest people I have ever known. There are so many good memories of him from the golf course. He was always there for me and my family and I so appreciated his friendship. He so loved his family and had so many accomplishments that so many never get to experience. What a blessing to have lived such a wonderful life. Sending prayers, love and hugs.
Coach was a dear friend and mentor for many years. Golf allowed us both to remain productive longer than we might have. His "hands on" approach helped in times of pain and strain. My thoughts are with you at this difficult time.
Deepest sympathy with the loss of Orrie,
We were so touch that the both of them could be at our wedding 2 yrs ago. Duane thought the world of Orrie and is deeply sad of his passing. To live a long and happy life is all we could ever ask for.

I was the Athletic Department secretary when Orrie was on the track and field coaching staff. Orrie was the sweetest guy you could ever meet and his obvious sincere love for the student-athletes was always evident. Although I'm sure his friends and family will feel his loss, 98 years is a pretty great legacy to a wonderful man. Sleep in heavenly peace, Coach!
Mr. Rew was my head football coach way back in 1963 when I came to City High as a sophomore, and I remember him as being a man that we all liked and respected very much. He left a lasting impression as a great teacher that, with that twinkle in his eye and his great smile, could say a lot without saying anything at all. I was honored to be a student of his and was saddened to hear of his passing.
Leora, our deepest condolences to you. Steve and your family. Leora, your dad was a great teacher, coach, and mentor.
In 1967 Coach Rew was my one of ICHS assistant track coaches. Most of the team were very hard workers and clearly demonstrated to Orrie that deserved a pat on the back. All except Phil Larson who had such natural talent that he could afford to "dog it"...a fact that just incenced Coach Rew. After warning Phil of dire consequences, Phil continued goofing off. Orrie solved the problem by pulling a gun on Phil and firing numerous rounds at him. All of us froze until we realized it was Orrie's starter pistol.
Orrie was one of the nicest, kindest and friendliest person I've ever had the pleasure to be associated with. His charm and genuine sense of caring always impressed me the first time I met him. we enjoyed many rounds of golf together, and he never made fun of me once; in fact, he helped me on several occasions. In the past several years, Orrie, Ken, my wife Joyce and I made an interesting and unique foursome on the course. We had a great deal of fun together, and we enjoyed Orrie's company very much. Mr. Rew was outstanding in everything he attempted, and his life was certainly full and rewarding--think of his accomplishments in his life. He was an outstanding man. Think of the life he experienced--the roaring twenties, the depression, world war II, the fifties, and sixties and on and on until the present. I have no doubt that he contributed in his joyful and magnanimous way for every situation he encountered. He was a giver, a giver of love, a giver of education, a giver of athletics and ,most importantly, a giver of himself. I have a vision in my head of Orrie sitting with the Creator, shaking the creators hand and thanking the Creator for the marvelous adventure of life that Orrie received. I'll guess the Creator really, really likes having Orrie around because Orrie lived life as the Creator intended. I will miss you, Orrie, but I know we will met again one day in the next life, and I'm pretty sure that the golf balls all fly straight, and the chips are all close and you never three putt. We'll have one Heaven of a round then.
