Ralph J. "Jim" Freeman, Jr.

Condolences
Sorry to hear of Jim's passing. Larry Brown and I were doing a service Project in Tennessee this past week (returned Tuesday) and I only learned about Jim today.
Jim was one of the best athletes to ever play for City High. Bob attended 26 of the 27 games he played for Iowaat home and away. We enjoyed sharing family with events with our children and theirs. All of the cousins were like brothers and sisters. Jim shared pheasants, which he shot, with us for a special treat. We have fond memories of times our families were together.
I extend my sympathies to Jim's family. It's been a while since I've seen him, but always enjoyed visiting with him at the Rochester HyVee coffee group. Thinking of you during these difficult days.
Chris, Calvin, Sandy and all family,
I just learned of Jim's passing and I'm so very sorry for all of you... a true end to an era. Jim was a big guy with a big heart and a big personality to match! Father, father-in-law, husband, grandfather, and friend to many. I will always remember his jokes and his fun sense of humor. Wonderful how everyone is gathering at City High! Special greetings to my god-daughter, Chelsea, who is in my heart today, as are you all. Unable to make his celebration of life today, but will be thinking of you all for a very, very long time and will reach out soon. Try to carry on as best as you can today with cherished memories of Jim.
Prayers to the Freeman "Clan". We will keep you in our hearts and in our prayers with the passing of Jim.
I would like to pass on my sympathy and heart felt sorrow to the family of Jim Freeman. Words cannot express the generosity that Mr. Freeman and his family gave me as their son's (Mike) teammate at the University of Iowa. I was far away from my home in Jersey City NJ, and not only was I welcomed into the home like a family member but I was offered great advice on life that has served me well until this day. This kindness wasn't exclusively offered to me, but other players who were far from home & family, who were given cherished moments of normalcy of a home to break up the times of separation from our loved ones.
Thank you Jim and the Freeman family for those moments and your loss is in my heart.
Love
Malcolm Christie
I first got to know Jim when I was manager of Pauls Discount. He would come in and buy bird seed or dog food or something. We would talk current events or sports, most anything. He was kind of intimidating at first but then you could tell he was playing with you and he had a heart of gold.We started meeting for coffee every once in a while. He opened up and shared a lot.I'll pray for him and his family.
I spent so many weekends staying with Jim, Sandy, Shelley, Chris and Mike on Raven Street. My Mom and Dad would go to Iowa City for the football games. I always felt welcome at Uncle Jim and Aunt Sandy's house. Uncle Jim always had something fun going on with dogs or hunting. He loved to be involved with the kids, whether family or friends. He will always be a special uncle to me.
I will definitely miss seeing Jim every morning at Panera. He was always there with a smile and always asked me how my kids were and when I'd bring them in again to see him. Thanks for all the laughs Jim. My prayers and thoughts are with your family right now.
Memories as friends and neighbors on Raven Street in Iowa City.
Sandy, Shelley, Chris and Mike I'm so sorry to hear of Jim's death. If he was in pain perhaps it was a blessing. Thinking of you all.
As ever, Nancy
Jim was my cousin, our fathers were very close as were our families. This photo of Jim was the man I grew up remembering, a geat athletic that I loved & feared as as kid. Jim was so typically a Freeman, he loved to tease & have fun with his family & friends.
From our family of Freeman's we send our sorry to Sandy & family . I have fond memories of our families together & certainly Jim will be missed.
May God bless you at this time of sorry.
Jim and I have known each other since our grade school days and living in the same neighborhood on South Governor St. He has been my "Go to guy" for insurance for a long time and we have spent many hours sitting over coffee, talking about nearly everything. These get togethers had become a weekly thing the last few years and I will greatly miss them and the companionship we had together. Jim has been a very outgoing person and his big desire was to always help people in the best way he could. His last few years have been rather hard on him and the family, but he is now free of those problems and may he now rest in Eternal Peace. My condolences to Sandy and her family, for he will be greatly missed.
Uncle Jim is an amazing spirit of support and encouragement through out my childhood and adolescence. We fished the Iowa rivers and surrounding ponds on many occasions while showing interest in every aspect of my life. He genuinely cared about what was going on without any judgement. He seemed always open to doing anything together when I was growing up.
