To the family of Margaret Hootman
I just learned of Margaret's passing and wanted to send my condolences. I met Margaret when I began working at the City of Iowa City in 1979. The frint desk was right outside our office so I was able to have many conversations with her. After her retirement she always kept in touch and stoppes by whenever she was in the building. I have never met a more caring and friendly lady. She was one of the friendliest receptionists ever at the City. She was always so proud to share the accomplishments of her grandchildren with me and I wil never forget how her eyea lit up as she talked about them. She was a wonderful woman and heaven has truly been given an angel.
Dear Katie & Dan - I am so very sorry to hear of the loss of your Mother. Although we only met recently, I was struck by her vibrancy, her graciousness and her obvious care for people. When we met by accident at the yogurt store we had a lovely visit and it was then that she told me she had "the perfect daughter". I wanted to be sure to tell you that, Katie. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.
Sincerest condolences to Mrs. Hootman's family. She was a treasure. Second grade was 58 years ago, but she never forgot us and we will always remember her.
Katie, We are so very sorry about the passing of your Mom. She was a wonderful person. She was not only a customer but a very, very good friend. When she came in she always had something wonderful to tell or show me pictures of her family etc, which she adored, and talking about the Welsh ancestors and trips. I will always remember her friendly smile. Know you will miss her dearly, our thoughts and prayers are with you. Mary and Frank
Dear Katie and family,
For the kids on our block, Mrs. Hootman always had a big smile and a friendly wave. And it was a nice surprise to have her show up as our substitute teacher! My condolences, Katie, to you and your family.
Always had the highest respect for the way she carried herself. Always friendly, always happy, whenever she asked how you were, it came across like she really cared. The kids I ran around with always had the same thing to say, Chuck sure has a nice Mom.
I was sorry to hear about Margaret. I knew her from years ago as a phone person for Iowa City City Hall and within the last two years have come into contact with her again. She was a blessing to all who came into to contact with her. Her smile was always a welcome addition to my day.
Oh Katie, I was so sorry to hear of your loss. Please accept my condolences. We lost my Mom unexpectedly last March and its been a difficult transition. I know you will miss her terribly, you are in my thoughts and prayers. Anne
I knew Mrs. Hootman as a substitute teacher in grade school and her daughter Katie was in my brother's class (Greg Dasovich). She was a lovely person and I still remember her kindness even after all these years. Sue Dasovich Kretzschmar
I was so sorry to hear of Margaret's passing. I never met her family but I have memories of being her neighbor. We lived on Wayne Ave and when I first met her my kids were small and she would walk her dog by our house. Then as the kids got older we would stop at her house to sell boy scout and girl scout stuff or go trick or treating. She was always so welcoming. After we moved I always enjoyed running in to her at CVS or Hy-Vee. She would always ask about the kids (22 and 18 now). She was a great woman and I will always remember her smile and laugh. Drove by her house just the other day and my daughter asked "Is Margaret still alive". She made an impression on them as well. I'm sorry for your loss and you are in my thoughts.
Katie, it's Mark Dorpinghaus. I remember you frm Jr. High, so many years ago. My condolence on the passing of your Mom. It sounds like she had a long, productive and wonderful life. May God guide you and your family in the days, weeks & months ahead. Sincerely... Mark
To Margaret Hootman's Family,
When someone you've known your entire life as a loving mother, friend, and simply a wonderful and kind person, such as Margaret truly was, it is difficult to hear of her passing from this world. Knowing that she is gone to the spiritual world, she is and will always be here with us in our memories and thoughts. I will always remember her as a special person and friend to our family and send our heart felt condolences to the Hootman family.
Katie,
Sorry to hear about the passing of one of the sweetest ladies. She always had a smile and kind word. My thoughts are with you.

All my sympathy to your family on the passing of your most beloved mother.

Take care,

I am so sorry to hear of Margaret's passing. I will truly miss her and our special lunch trips to the Red Lobster where we had some of our best visits. Margaret was such a wonderful and intelligent lady. Very caring and giving. Not only were we neighbors for many years, but good friends as well. Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss.
Margaret was one of the nicest ladies I have ever met. She always had a smile on her face and a friendly greeting for all. I remember going to Chicago with her and Daphne Fuhrmeister on one of them bus trips to the art museum. What a time. Always young at heart them two.
I have a photo of her playing the organ at a friend's daughter's wedding. She gave it such a personal touch. She made it so special.
Katie and family you have my deepest sympathy but take comfort in knowing she is still with you in spirit and all the happy memories.
Donna

Margaret was our neighbor when my family lived on Wade Street, but in a day and age when I can honestly say that I don't know many of my neighbors and even the ones I do rarely can I say that they are true friends, she was to our family and I, we, will all miss her. Margaret always still made time to talk to my mother and often asked about me which always made me feel special. I had heard that she was recently ill and I had great intentions of writing to her, bought her a card and I never got around to getting it out due to "my busy life". I am sorry for that and it will always stick with me as I wanted her to know just how special she was to me and my family as well. I hope she knows. Rest in peace Margaret and we love you and will miss you
