Obituary of Lyda O. Brown
Lyda O. Brown, 77, of Iowa City, died suddenly at her home on May 30, 2016.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am Thursday, June 2, 2016, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in her memory to Kirkwood Avenue Church of Christ or Pathways of Iowa City. Lyda was born March 3, 1939, in Butler, Missouri, the daughter of Doyle and Marie (Boyd) O’Rear. Her family moved to Iowa City where she attended schools, graduating with the Class of 1957 from City High School. On November 2, 1957, she was united in marriage to William “Bill” Brown. She worked for over 25 years for the family businesses, O’Rear Trucking and Iowa City Tire. She was an active member of the Kirkwood Avenue Church of Christ, where she enjoyed teaching children’s Bible Class for many years. She was the first president of the Jaycettes in Iowa City, and past president of the Iowa Coralbelles, a women‘s Barbershop Chorus. Lyda cooked endless meals for those of her family and friends that were ill, ran errands for them and actively sought out ways that she could minister to all. She will be greatly missed.
Lyda’s family includes her husband, Bill; daughter, Lori Miller and her husband, John, and their children: Nick Miller, his wife, Jenny and their children, Piper and Maddox, and Brandon Miller; daughter, Diane Hutt and her husband Mart, and their children: Traci Anderson and her husband, Robert Massey and their children, Jackson, Ruby, and Lyda Mae; Troy Anderson and his wife, Sara, and their children, Bradley and Estelle; Jess Byram and her husband, Jake and their children, Lily and Lincoln; Erin Hutt, and Marcy Hutt and her son, Gavin; Son, Mike Brown and his wife, Carrie and their children: Heidi, Sarah and Max; brothers, Nelson O’Rear and his wife, Teri, Bill O’Rear and his wife, Deb, and Bob O’Rear; sister, Karen Brantley; sister-in-law, Jane Colony; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
