Obituary of Richard L. Geisz

Richard L. Geisz, 71, of Peosta, formerly of Chadwick, Ill., died Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, from lung disease. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 3, at the Grand River Center, 500 Bell St., Dubuque, where friends may call after 11 a.m. He was born on April 7, 1945 St. Francis Hospital Freeport, Ill., son of Reuben and Dorothy Geisz. Richard was raised in Chadwick, and after graduation joined the United States Army and spent 3 years in Germany during the Vietnam War. He was employed after his military career as a farm machinery mechanic for 30 years and retired in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He spent the last of his remaining two years with his son in Peosta, IA enjoying the company of his two children and many friends and family. Surviving are his son Stephen (Megan) Schumacher-Geisz, of Peosta IA and his daughter Robin(Billy), Geisz-Hoefle of Freeport, IL; brother, Kenneth Geisz (Doris) of Lanark, IL; grandchildren, Alex Geisz, Trey Hoefle, Tahlor Holland and several step-granchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Reuben (Dorthy) Geisz of Chadwick, IL; two wives, Jane Woodin and Gayle Geisz; and a sister Gloria Stewart of Texas. In Lieu of flowers a Richard Geisz memorial fund has been established. The family would like to thank all the friends and family that supported them to include the Iowa City Hospital nurses that cared for him.
