Obituary of Martin N Luna
Martin Nickolas Luna, 17, of Iowa City, passed away surrounded by his family’s love, Monday, June 6, 2016 in the comfort of his home.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, June 10th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (2730 Bradford Dr.). Visitation will be Thursday, from 4-8 p.m. at the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. Services and burial will also be held next week in Edinburg, Texas.
Martin was born July 22, 1998, in McAllen, Texas. He attended school in Edinburg until moving to Storm Lake, Iowa, where he was able to play football for his 8th and 9th grade years, a sport he loved so much and dedicated such effort to. After moving to Iowa City, not able to play on the City High Team, he was made a manager and took great pride in that role and his team. Dedication ran deep with Martin, as he was also very faithful to his Lord, making morning seminary a part of his daily life. In November he was able to attend a Patriot’s game and meet some of his favorite NFL players, and the smile on his face said it all! Martin also took great pride in the fact that he received his diploma this year from City High.
His family includes his mother and her husband, Esmeralda Nunez (Carlos) of Iowa City; siblings, Kendra Ortiz, Kessandra Ortiz and Rogelio Ortiz Jr., all of Texas and Katelyn Ortiz of Iowa City; niece, Zira Zendaya Ortiz; sister-in-law, Desiree Gonzalez; brother-in-law, Artemio Garcia; grandfather, Pedro Luna of Texas and his beloved dog, Samson.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Martina Jackson Luna.
Martin’s family would like to acknowledge the incredible outpouring of support shown to their entire family from his fellow students and staff at City High School, the families of their church and the entire Iowa City community.
Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Martin’s family and his services.
