Obituary of Furaha Nyabitanga
Furaha Nyabitanga was born January 1, 1994 in Congo. She lived there until the age of 12 when civil unrest and war forced her family to leave their country and move to the United States as political refugees. She lived first in Georgia and later her family settled in Iowa City.
In spite of the incredible struggles that her family faced, Furaha was a strong, independent woman who brought happiness and spontaneity to any occasion. She loved writing, being in the company of children, travel, and always looking her best. Her family recalls that she enjoyed spending her money on all things fashion related; clothes, shoes, and the best make up she could afford.
Furaha was a true sweetheart who loved her mother very much. She had an easygoing personality and got along with everyone she met. She was known for her generosity and would share whatever money she had with others in times of need.
Furaha is survived by her mother, Zera Nyankundwa, three sisters, Zabibu Nkunde, Riziki Uwingeneye, and Sifa Nyamboneka, and one brother, Innocent Mbonigaba.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 16, 2016 at The River Community Church in Iowa City. Check back soon for a complete obituary.
