Obituary of Coloman G. Adam
Coloman, or Kalman to many, was born in Cleveland, Ohio, to Michael Kalman Adam and Marianna Elizabeth (Crettier) Adam. Kalman attended primary school in Cleveland, high school in Fairview Park a western suburb of Cleveland, and Cleveland State University’s Fenn College of Engineering in Cleveland, Ohio. He played youth soccer for the Cleveland Magyar Athletic Club and later for Fairview High School. He was an active scout and scout leader in Hungarian Boy Scout troops 22 and 14 in Cleveland.
After graduating as a chemical engineer from Cleveland State University, he worked as a process and automation engineer pioneering the use of polyurethane foam in auto and aeronautic applications. His career spanned 40 years and several locations in the United States and Europe.
Coloman is survived by his wife and partner of 34 years, Ann (Waterhouse) Adam and daughter Jessica, brother Michael (Karen) Adam, nephews Peter Adam, Steven Adam, Nathan Waterhouse, Jeff Waterhouse, and Lawrence Trask; nieces Kathleen Adam, Sarah (Ed) McCormack, Hannah (Josh) Adkins, Melissa Waterhouse, and Amy (Chris) Ouellette; parents-in-law, Lester and Barbara Waterhouse, sisters-in-law, Eileen Jewett and Gail (Bill) Remick; brothers-in-law, Carl (Kathy) Waterhouse, Stuart Waterhouse, and Daniel Waterhouse.
There will be a time for family and friends to gather from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday, August 16, 2016, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, where at 7 pm brief prayer service will be held. In lieu of flowers memorials donations can be made in Coloman’s memory to Iowa City Hospice (1025 Wade Street Iowa City, IA 52240) or the San Antonio Zoo (3903 N St. Mary’s Street San Antonio, TX 78212.
