Obituary of James E. Quire
James E. “Jim” Quire, 70 longtime resident of Iowa City died Tuesday, August 23, 2016, at Mercy Hospital – Hospice Care Unit.
Memorial services will be held at 1pm Monday, August 29, 2016, at the Iowa City First Assembly of God 1330 Keokuk Street. There will be a time of visitation at the church from 11am until services on Monday. Following the funeral services they will be a time to celebrate Jim’s life at the Iowa City American Legion on Muscatine Avenue. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Jim’s memory.
James Edward Quire was born December 29, 1945, in Ollie, Iowa the son of George E. and Hildreth “Topsy” Quire. Following graduation from high school in Williamsburg, he moved to Texas where he attended and graduated from college. He worked as an accountant most of his career, here in Iowa City working for NCS-Pearson and H&R Block. Jim was known to his friends as the go to man for any facts about any sports. He was an avid fan of all sports, but especially anything concerning the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs! Jim was a loving husband and a longtime member of the Moose lodge with a quick wit that always made others feel comfortable.
His family includes his wife, Kristi; son, Jeremy; step-daughter, Abby Anderson (Kyle); 3 grandchildren, sisters, Sandy Mossman (Lawrence) and Diane Phillips; brother, Bill Northup (Wilma); cousin, Kay Gause (Les) and his feline friend, Katie.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Jason; and sister, Sally Green.
