A life that not only lived, but passionately celebrated. Josefina’s life and her story have affected many, not only what she has gone through but how she persevered with a consistent smile. Josefina had an enormous, rich, complicated, and happy life emanating from her small figure.
Josefina believed good food was a celebration of life, opening her door to anyone and making sure they always left with a full belly and left-overs. She was at peace when surrounded by family and friends over a home cooked meal. Josefina would like to be remembered by her bright smile, warm embrace and contagious laugh. It was her wish to bring a smile to everyone she encountered.
Born June 1, 1930, in Guanajuato, Mexico, Josefina immigrated to the United States in 1969, and established a home in Riverside, IA, alongside her husband, Marion Sexton. With 6 children, and over 15 grandchildren, her house was always a commotion of love and laughter.
Toward the end of her life, Josefina moved to Iowa City and found a deeper love for our lord and savior through her involvement at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, spending every Friday with the Spanish Prayer Group.
“Blessed are you who believe that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.” Luke 1:45
