Faye L Shalla

Condolences
Jeff and Family- I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to you and your family on the death of your mother. I had the pleasure of having her as a first grade teacher and of having you as a classmate. May you cherish wonderful memories and keep her spirit alive. Take care.
I was in Mrs. Shalla's class for the 1973-74 school year. When my grandma found out I was assigned to her class, she told my mom to ask Mr. Bishop to move me to the other teacher. My uncle had been in Mrs. Shalla's class years before, and I think he may have been a bit of a troublemaker. Mrs. Shalla wouldn't let him get away with anything, so my grandma thought she was too strict. My mom told my Grandma she'd let me decide after giving Mrs. Shalla a chance, and I'm glad she did. I loved Mrs. Shalla! She may have been strict (I still remember how she made one of the boys sit in the garbage can because he was eating paste), but she was a great teacher. She will be missed by many, I'm sure.
I am sorry to hear about Faye. I enjoyed the emails that she sent to me and the "visiting" by email that we did.

Sending my deepest condolences to the family. Mrs. Shalla was my first grade teacher at Coralville Central Elementary in 1976. I remember a very kind hearted woman who certainly loved what she did and was great at it!
I'm so sorry to hear about your mom, Jeff. My prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.
Thoughts and prayers go out to the Shalla family. Mrs.Shalla was one of my favorite teachers at Coralville Central Elementary School. She always had a smile on her face and even after elementary school I always enjoyed seeing her in Coralville.
Much love,
Julie Hyde
Faye and Clayton were part of my life since I was born. They lived next to my parents, Richard Hesler and Jane Gilbert when my father and Clayton were graduate students. I believe Faye baby-sat me when my mother started taking classes. That I do not remember, but I do remember that every time I met them throughout my life, they were warm, caring, interested and very interesting. The world is a bit dimmer now that both are gone.

I was deeply saddened to read that my wonderful 1st Grade teacher has passed away. Mrs. Shalla was such a kind, caring teacher to a scrawny, scared little girl who was in her 1st Grade class at Coralville Central School long ago. She made learning so much fun!! I still remember her handing out mimeographed papers (and the SMELL of the INK), and then reading to us so we could fill them out. "Milk - Moon - Matches" - teaching us about the letter "M"!! Her gentle ways of teaching made a big impression on me, and began a love of learning that led me to concentrate heavily on English while I was in college. My thoughts and prayers are with the family of this dear lady! She taught many children through the years, and left us with wonderful childhood memories!! God bless you, Mrs. Shalla!!
Adam and I are so sad! We loved both of your parents, they were always such kind and wonderful neighbors. Your mom was so sweet, she will be missed.
So sorry for your loss. I hope that the fond memories of the days of smiles help you cope during this difficult time.
As I read this obituary I realized how Mrs. Shalla has been a happy part of my memory of elementary school at Coralville Central. I honestly never thought about it much until now but I had several teachers and there are only a few that stick out and create a smile each time I think of them -- Mrs. Shalla was one of those teachers. I will carry memories of her with me always and smile when I think of her.
