Obituary of Sovilla Shimon
Sovilla “Mae” Shimon, 78,lifelong resident of the Iowa City area died Sunday, October 16, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am Thursday, October 20, 2016, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her memory.
Sovilla Mae Coblentz was born August 12, 1938, in rural Johnson County, Iowa the daughter of Amos D. and Matilda (Troyer) Coblentz. She was united in marriage to Robert J. Shimon Sr. on January 9, 1960 in Iowa City. The couple made their home here where they raised their 5 children. Mae worked a number of jobs over the years, but the one she enjoyed the most was working at Randall’s where she was the bakery manager retiring after over 16 years of service there. She was a member of the VFW, Ladies Auxiliary, First United Methodist Church and a number of bowling leagues over the years. Mae enjoyed many things in her world, she was an excellent cook, baker, doing crafts, crocheting, playing Farmville on the computer (and was pretty darn good at this), but most of all she loved being Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma. Family was her pride and joy, her reason to get up in the morning, and the reason for her smile that never left her face!
Her family includes her five children, Julie Price (Dave), Barb Kaefring (Randy), Joe Shimon (Heather), Vickie Beckler (Steve), and Robert Shimon Jr. (Jenny Hardy),and special member of the family Robert McMorran; grandchildren, Christy Franklin (Kentucky), Michael Price, Elizabeth Price, Karmen Smith (Mark),David Price (Jeanette Young), Rebecca Hora (Tim), Lindsey Kaefring, Heather West (Andy), Shelby Shimon, Mariah Shimon,Emily Shimon, Megan Albright (Blake), Miranda White (Jesse), Andrew Beckler, Manny Sanchez (Gina Tavi), RJ Shimon, Maddie Hardy, Ryan Hardy, and Alexandra Peach; great-grandchildren, Brianna, Matthew, Samantha, Tyler, Brittnee, Shane, Gabe, Tenley, Baby Boogers, Kiah, Rylee, and Manny; sisters, Margaret Poggenpohl and Sharon Dewey; and a brother, Ed Coblentz (Deb). Special friend of the family Cathi Evans.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Clara Smith, and her brother, Robert Coblentz.
