Condolences
Though this is written several months following my father's death I thank all who have written condolences in memory of my father. Reading what you have shared about your memories of dad is a beautiful tribute to his personality and spirit.
Dad cared very deeply about people, weather they were in good spirits or struggling with something in their life. Within a single conversation dad could laugh with you, cry with you, joke with you, and end the conversation letting you know mow much he cared. He gave of most of his life helping where and when he could. He could easily poke fun at himself, never pretending to be perfect and that was part of what kept him humble. Through his faith he knew there would always be love, forgiveness, and blessings in good times and painful times. When he grieved the passing of one of his own children he was extremely grateful for the support from many who cared for him and Alice.
As a kid one of my favorite things to do was when dad and I would throw a football or baseball to each other. Throughout our lives we were able to talk about so many subjects-Iowa Hawkeye football, religion, movies, books, outer space, etc. My children loved visiting their Granddad and he the same. My children, my wife, and I miss dad more than words. Peace Eternal Dad, until we meet again, we love you. Rex
Rex was one of a kind. I had the privilege of working with him at the Crisis Center. Thinking of his family.
Please accept my heartfelt condolences to The family of Rex Spicer.
I worked with Rex doing flood outreach work at the Johnson County Crisis Center.
Rex was such an easy man to be around,as he was genuine, kind, spiritual and dedicated to his work in helping others!
It was an honor to have know and worked with Rex.

Dear Alice and Family,
We offer our heartfelt condolences and sympathy on Rex's passing. Please know that you are in our prayers that you may find peace in time as you cherish the memories of his life.
May his memory be eternal in your hearts.
In sympathy,
Mark, Anna, Matthew and Patrick
I remember Rex, and think of him often. As our Sunday School teacher back at Christ the King, Rex held his patience despite the bunch of goofballs he dealt with every weekend. "The repenting pen" was one of the many famous analogies Rex used to make biblical lessons easy for us to understand. Although I'm no longer a member of the Lutheran Church, I feel so strongly that Rex shaped me into the person I am today. I just read his obituary, and it's no surprise to me that he devoted his life to serving others. I can't recall anyone more kind. His hugs and gracious calmness made me feel like I was the most important person in the world. I couldn't be more certain that wherever Rex is today, he is somewhere filled with happiness, and in the company of Scott, because he deserves to receive all of the warmth that he put out while he was on earth.
Alice and family,
You all have my deepest sympathy and prayers. May the love and caring he had for you help you during this difficult time and beyond. May God hold you in His arms and comfort you.
Sincerely,
Jan (sister to Julie)
Our sympathies and condolences to Alice and all of the family. We will miss his smile!

The few times I was fortunate enough to spend time with Rex I could quickly see his intelligence, warmth, humor, character and caring. Alice my love and prayers are with you, and I know I am speaking truly for all your extended family in California. We are sending all comforting wishes your way. Love to you, Cousin Marie LaRue
Alice:
I posted a photo of an angel that you had drawn.
You sent it to me after my sister passed away and it brought me such comfort so I am sending it to you now.
I am praying for you.
To both the Krause and Spicer families and to Alice, I am very sorry for your loss.
God give you strength.
My heart goes out to the Spicer family and all who knew and loved Rex. He was an amazing presence and I am glad I got to work with him at the Crisis Center. Rex was gentle and playful. He cared deeply about those he was helping after they were impacted by flooding.
