Obituary of Loretta A. Miller
Loretta A. Miller, 100, of Solon, died Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at the Solon Care Center.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Solon, with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Solon. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Tuesday at the Church, where a Forrester Rosary will be recited at 4pm and a Parish Vigil Service at 7pm. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in her memory, in additions to masses that can be offered in her memory. Loretta Alice Wieser was born January 9, 1916, in Calmer, Iowa the daughter of Charles M and Alice J. (Kroma) Wieser. She attended schools in Dubuque, Holy Ghost Catholic Elementary School and ICA Academy High School. She was united in marriage to John Cletus Miller on October 25, 1941 at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Dubuque. They spent their lifetimes farming in the Solon area, Loretta was the “farm wife” that took care of everything and everyone! Not only was she active in her church, St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Solon, teaching CCD for first graders for many years, a member of the Altar & Rosary Society, she was also a member of the Catholic Order of the Foresters, American Legion Auxiliary, and many bridge clubs over the years. But she was also known for her baking angel food cakes, many pies, homemade noodles, and always by scratch! Never a box for Loretta! She was a bit meticulous about her yard to say the least, still out spraying and pulling weeds well into her 90’s. She loved her family dearly and cherished the many friendships she had throughout her lifetime.
Her family includes her son and daughter-in-law: Richard and Judy Miller; three grandchildren, Reverend Christopher Miller, Terry and his wife, Rhonda Miller, and Jodi and her husband, Adam Palmer; 5 great-grandchildren, Cole, Brooke and Autumn Miller, and Kelsey and Landon Palmer; sister and her husband, Dorothy and Neil Keith; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John, sisters, Mary Nolan and Irene Loanjers; brothers, Charles, Maurice, Wilfred, Francis, Milton and Melvin Wieser; brothers-in-law, Albert Miller, and his wife, Mary, and Laurance Miller, and his wife, Mary and Earl Miller.
