Obituary of Johnathon D. Poole
Spc. Johnathon D. Poole, of Iowa City, Iowa, was assigned to Delta Company, 2nd Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division; died Thursday, February 23, 2017, while stationed at Ft. Bragg, Fayetteville, North Carolina.
"Specialist Johnathon Poole was an outstanding Paratrooper and a valued member of our team," Lt. Col. Rhett Thompson, battalion commander, said in the release. “Condolences from the ‘2 Panther’ Paratroopers go out to his family and friends.” “Specialist Poole was a young leader who served honorably with the battalion as a heavy weapons gunner while supporting Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq in 2015,” Thompson said. “He will truly be missed.” Poole’s awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Army Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Parachutist Badge and the Air Assault Badge.
Johnathon Dale Poole was born October 28, 1990, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa the son of Roger D. and Martina E. (Dingle) Poole. He attended schools in Iowa City, graduating from City High School with the class of 2009. He recently married Cassaundra “Casse” W. Jewell on November 22, 2016.
His family includes his wife, Casse, mother, Martina Poole; father, Roger Poole; brother, Christopher Poole (Michelle); aunts and uncle, Jessica Bye, Debbie Jaco, and Michael Andrew; parents-in-law, Wendy and LeRoy Jewell; brother-in-law, Nathaneal Jewell (Tiffany); sister-in-law, Caytlin Jewell. John’s family would like to acknowledge Caleb & Heather Borseth and James and Natalia Miller as some who have helped us so much in this tragedy.
