Obituary of David 'Russell' Orr

Russell Orr, 91, of Columbus Junction, IA passed away peacefully at Colonial Manor in Columbus Junction, IA on Wednesday, March 29, 2017. Mr. Orr was born in Iowa City, IA April 16, 1925, the son of George and Bessie Orr. Russell was a WWII veteran. He was drafted into the US Army upon graduation in 1942 and served on the Italian front from 1943 - 1945. Russell was the recipient of two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star. In March of 1946 he married Alice Peterson at the Methodist Church in Conesville, IA. Russell and Alice spent their married life farming in the Columbus Junction area until retirement. Russell is survived by his four children and their spouses: Dave & Becky Orr, Randy & Nancy Orr, Kaye and Dennis Sipolt, and Leslie and Brian Jensen. He and Alice were blessed with seven grandchildren: Davey (Staci) Orr, Jeremy (Shauna) Orr, Kim (Brock) Wilson, Jessica (Marcos) Esquivel, Rob (Robyn) Jensen, Mariah Jensen, Travis Jensen and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Jean Steuart; one brother-in-law, Lewis Peterson; and two sisters-in-law, Martha Peterson and Arlene Buckman. Russell will be sadly missed by family and friends; but dearly remembered for his great sense of humor and positive outlook on life. Graveside services with military honors will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Columbus City Cemetery.
