Suzann K. Knebel was born October 24, 1951 in Iowa City to Louis and Lucille (Kron) Knebel. She attended school both in Lone Tree and in Iowa City at Regina. She married Roger A. Slaughter on July 31, 1967, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hills. Through good times and bad, their 50-year marriage was constantly full of love and laughter. When daughters Wendi and Angie were born, she cherished being their mother and was always there to support them. When the girls were in school, she started working in the library at their elementary school in Hills, and later she worked as support staff for the Iowa City Community School District’s libraries. After working at Protein Blenders in Iowa City she became a travel agent, working first with Northwest Business Travel and retiring from Winebrenner Red Carpet Travel. She also became Grandma to Alyse and Kaleb, which she would say was the best job in the world! She loved to spend time with them and had an immeasurable impact on their lives. Her family was everything to her and she did so much for them throughout her life, especially her children and grandchildren. Their family enjoyed many driving vacations in early years, during which they saw much of the United States, but Suzann’s favorite vacation spots were in Europe. In later years, Suzann and Roger had a home in Arizona where they spent as much time as possible away from the cold.
Suzann was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she was on the Altar & Rosary Society. She was a member of bowling leagues, card clubs and the American Legion Auxiliary in Arizona. She was also an avid supporter of any activities that her girls or grandchildren participated in.
Her family includes her husband, Roger; their two daughters, Wendi Slaughter and Angie Slaughter; and two grandchildren, Alyse and Kaleb. She was preceded in death by her parents, and an infant daughter, Sandra Sue.
Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Suzann’s family and her services.
