Robert 'Bob' J. Elliott

Condolences
All who knew him and spent time with him, have an ache in our hearts. What a wonderful human being! Had the pleasure of seeing him play at Iowa, coached high school players that he recruited and coached against him as well. The epitome of class. Now he is one of the Angels. Jim Fox
I am so very sorry to learn of Bobby's passing. Such a courageous fight he fought! My thoughts and prayers are with you all...
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Joey, Grant and Jessica and also their families. Bob was a wonderful friend and neighbor to us. Our children grew up together. Often walking to school together and playing in the circle until the lights went on. Hold on to all those wonderful memories! Love, Cal, Nancy and family
Elliott family my thoughts and prayers are with you. Coach Elliott was a father figure to me from the first day we met back in 1989. He was the reason I attended the University of Iowa. A year ago I spent a few hours with him in South Bend and it was like being back in college again with a man I had the deepest respect for. He was the first man to congratulate me on being selected captain and I remember that moment like it was today. I was so moved by how proud he was of me for this accomplishment. He treated me like a son. Coach E was and amazing man that I will deeply miss. God bless.

Joey & family, Bump, I'm so sorry for your loss. As you know, and have been reminded many times this week, he was a great asset to his community and those he taught. He was obviously a great coach--but he was an even better person. I won't make it this morning to tell you in person, but you're in my thoughts and prayers. Pat
We will always be grateful to Coach Elliott for the kindness and leadership that he showed Jeff and the Hawk Eye team. He was such a great role model for all of his players, and the lessons that he taught them on the field will be carried with them through out their lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family at this difficult time.

To the Elliott Family,
My thoughts are with you as you take the time to remember Coach Elliott. I didn't know him, but through Jessica and now all the things I've read this week, I know he will be missed by many. I hope you'll find comfort during this troubling time.
All my best,
Brandon Masters
Bobby Elliott, a good teammate, coach, and a great man. RIP.
The Elliott's moved in down the street from our family when I was in high school. Bob was a bit older than me and attended a different school. I followed his storied career with great interest through the years and could tell that he was made from the same cloth as his mother, father, brother and sister: honorable, honest, hard-working, loyal, academically inclined and family-oriented. My family prays for all of the Elliotts.
Bobby was a great friend to me during his time at Iowa. I appreciated him always offering encouragement, inspiration and positive energy to me and so many coaches & players. He was faithful attending our Athletes In Action football coaches bible studies & chapel services. Bobby will be greatly missed by many. I feel confident He is in an awesome place.

Dear Joey, Jessica, Grant and all of the family,
There was a "feeling" I felt from the first moment you arrived at the Bird House. It was a warm, kind, open feeling that maintained throughout your stay. As we cared for Bob and you I continued to be amazed and impressed with your composure and gratitude and kindness. And I loved hearing your stories, Joey, about Bob and you and your adventures. Know this, from me and the rest of the team at the Bird House, you and Bob have impacted our lives in a positive way. I kind of think that's what you guys do and I wanted to let you know it is noticed and appreciated.
I wish you the time it will take to grieve Bob, it takes whatever amount of time it takes and it will be different for all of you. Eventually the loss turns into loving memories and he will manifest through you, he already does. I have always thought that our loved ones who have passed are still very present, safe and sound in our hearts. Thank you for letting me witness your love for Bob and one another. Kindly, Barb Brender
Upon informing fellow Hawkeye, Barry Tomasetti of Bobby's death. Barry texted back, "I read it today, he (Bobby) was dalways such a gentleman". Yes Sir!!
I am so sorry his life ended so early. Bob graduated in my class at West High. He was so happy and that made him very approachable. He has left a large hole in the many lives he's touched over the years.
We were saddened to hear about the passing of Bob. From the time Bob first joined our staff at Kent State in the late 70's I always thought he was a terrific human being, which would someday make him a tremendous coach and mentor. In a profession with many people with big egos and single minded focus, Bob was a rare commodity and he will be missed. We have prayed for Bob and Joey many times over the years and will thank God one final time for a life well live.

Dear Elliott Family,
I met Coach Elliott in 2006 when we both worked at San Diego State. I probably got to know him better than other coaches since we had a couple of things in common. For one, we both moved from the midwest for new jobs, he as a football coach of course, and me as an athletics administrator. We also both had an appreciation for a certain college football rivalry, he for Michigan since his dad coached there and me for Ohio State since I'm a graduate. Let's just say I learned a little bit more about that rivalry!
Coach Elliott was a super football coach. But he was a super person first. I found that our right away. Humble. Driven. Kind. Competitive. Those characteristics and more made him a special person who did what he was destined to do as long as he possibly could -- coach college football.
You will be missed Coach Elliott but not forgotten!
Sincerely,
Sean Briner
So sad to hear the news of my friend Bobby Elliots passing. Even though I was a basketball coach and he was a football coach I was drawn to him and went out of my way to meet him when I heard he was in the Iowa City Hospital receiving a bone marrow transplant nearly 20 years ago. I was so happy when he coached at ISU under Dan McCarney and then Paul Rhoads (and he was sorely missed both times after he left for other jobs).
I even tried to get him to take the Directorship of the Iowa Games as I was preparing to retire and even though he considered it, when ISU came calling again (for the 3rd time) I knew he would return to coaching.
I had the greatest respecTrish and my prayers go out to his family and other loved ones and friends who will miss him greatly.
Rest in Peace my friend until we meet again. Jim Hallihan
Heartfelt sorrow and many many prayers go out to your family while you are dealing with the loss of this wonderful man. Your whole family and friends are certainly in our prayers.

Dear Elliott Family,
I've known Bob and your family especially Grant from his days in Iowa. Bob and I worked as a team together in helping him mentor student athletes. We had such pure and honest conversations. I was grateful enough to keep in contact with him even after he left Iowa. Every person Bob came in contact with he had such an impact on them especially myself. Early this summer Bob called me to chat and catch up and it was a delightful conversation. He was so positive and upbeat and lifted my spirits that day. I know now that he knew his life on this earth was coming to an end. I am so ever grateful for that phone call and he chose to call me. That's the kind of man he was. As you know I'm here in Iowa City and will be of any support you need for however long. All my love and prayers. Mary Peterson
Bob Elliott was a great son, a great athlete, a great student, a great father, a great coach, a great husband, a great grandfather, and a great individual who brought out the Best in everyone he met!
Rest in peace Bobby, you will be missed by all!
Joey & Family,
Please accept our sincere condolences on the passing of Bob. We have great memories from our days together at Ball State. That was a special time and Bob was a special person. God Bless you and your family.

I am sending my deepest sympathy to Joey, Grant, and Jessica. Bobby was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and coach. My sincere condolences to the entire Elliott family.
Bob's incredible life, and his impact on so many, will keep his legacy alive for many years.
I remember fondly, the last time I visited with him during a recruiting visit to Davenport Central.
As usual, he was upbeat, positive and so excited to be representing Coach McCarney and the Cyclones!
Rest in peace, Bob.
What a wonderful man. Always had the most positive energy and attitude. He will be missed.
My heartfelt wishes and prayers for Bob's family thru this most difficult time. Bob was a funny, loving, dedicated, intelligent person who will sorely be missed. He along with his family heroically fought his health challenges for many years and he still lived his life to the fullest. My thoughts and love are sent to you all.
My favorite memory of Bobby was him dancing at his daughter's wedding last summer. It was a sight to behold and a wonderful and fun memory. Prayers to Bobby, family and friends.
Love and prayers sent to Bob's family from The Bird House Staff. May God hold you all closely in this time of grief. May you hold the stories of Bob close to your hearts forever! Thank you for sharing your last day together with us. We will treasure that.
