Obituary of Joseph F. Segreti
Joseph F. Segreti, 95 of rural Iowa City died Monday, July 24, 2017, at his home.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, July 29, 2017, at 11 am at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Iowa City, where there will be an hour of visitation prior to the services. (Sunday parking ordinance will be in effect for the streets around the church) Memorial donations May be made in his memory to Iowa City Hospice or Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Joseph Fidel Segreti was born November 17, 1921 in Youngstown. OH, the son of Rafaele and Maria (Oreco) Segreti. Following graduation from high school in Youngstown, he went on to graduate from Youngtown State University. During World War II, Joe served in the United States Army. Following his service he worked on the Manhatten Project in Los Alamos, NM. From here he was reassigned to the AEC and sent to Amarillo, TX, and then later to the Rock Island, IL Arsenal. In 1955 he joined Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati, OH and in 1956 he was part of the team that started the Iowa City Plant. He worked for Procter & Gamble over 31 years before retiring in 1984.
Joe was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Iowa City Noon Kiwanis and previously had been a member of Iowa City Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Junior Achievement, Elderly Services and Goodwill. Joe enjoyed much in his long life, especially playing golf, games of pool, trout fishing, coffee with the guys, wood carving and wood burning and a “dry martini up” most every night. He loved retirement, his family and his good friends!
Joe’s family includes his wife, Janet; children, Angela Gatton (Andrew); and Scott Fetherolf (Melissa); grandchildren, Marcus, David, Nathan, Ellie, Tracy and Breanna; special friend, Joyce Umphress and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 10 siblings.
