Stephen L. Swails
1948 - 2017
Condolences
I am so sorry to hear of your loss Sara and Amanda. I knew Mr. Swails as Amanda's kind father, I had no idea about all of his amazing accomplishments. My thoughts are with your family.
Paula and I pass on our condolences to the Swails family. I had the pleasure and privilege of working with Steve on the operation of DAEC. Steve was a true professional and an excellent engineer. I especially remember working with Steve in the Licensing Department. You always knew that you did not have to have any concerns about signing a licensing or technical document that was generated or reviewed by Steve. And besides that, he was just a very nice person to work with.
Dear Elaine,
I am so sorry for your loss. I send my sympathy and prayers.
In Pilot friendship,
Julie Thompson
We are so sorry to hear about your sudden loss. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.
I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. I believe your father, grandfather (Larry) worked with my father (Howard Green), for Swail's refrigeration. They were involved in a serious work accident in 1950 in Mucsatine, Ia. This accident claimed my father's life and seriously injured Larry. I don't remember my father and everyone that new him has passed. I have a picture of the Swail's crew, building, work truck, and of course your father/grandfather. I would very much like to share a copy of this photo with your family. Please contact me so I can send this photo. Also if anyone in your family has any memories of my dad, please share them. Sincerely, LaDonna Brown
Our sympathy to your family on the loss of Stephen.
I had the pleasure of working wih Steve for about 10 years at Alliant Energy. His passion for work and technical mind made him a great resource for our substation projects. He was a friend and colleague for many of us. We will miss Steve. I know he lived his life fully.
My condolences to your entire family,
Anne Lutz
I am very sorry for your loss. May the fond memories of the times you shared bring you comfort and peace during this most difficult of times. We can look forward to God's promise to wipe away our tears and swallow up death forever, found at Isaiah 25:8. My deepest sympathy to you all.
He will be greatly missed. It was truly a pleasure to know him and work with him.
So sorry to hear. Our condolences. We were classmates at City High and Brothers in Kappa Sigma at U of I.
I was a classmate of Steve at City High. We were in the classes for smart kids together, and he was definitely one of the smartest! He was a very nice guy and lots of fun to talk to. I wish he could have been at our 50th reunion last month. I am so sorry for your loss, but I congratulate you on your good fortune in having him as a family leader. Anne Guerrant, Phoenix, AZ
What a full life Steve had. Please except my sympathy for your loss.
Hello to the Swails Family,
SO sorry to hear about Steve. How sad. Great guy!. Full of good ol' knowledge on lots of things. Great laugh and smile. Always under 'control' of himself. I first met Steve at City High. He and I were in the Class of 1967. I met him 1st day of school, in 1964. We had PE together, and an English class. Tall, and thin. He would talk, but not always his first option! We sure looked for him at our 50th Class Reunion in July...now we know why we did not see him. I also knew that he was an Eagle Scout. Steve was a great guy, and a Great American. I hope your Family can rally around Steve's great wisdom and leadership of the Family in his honor.
My condolences.

We talked about Steve at our 50th High School Reunion this year and wished he was there. We had no idea. What a full life and one that he was enthusiastic about fostering in the future. So, so sorry!! Leora and Steve Houghton
Tony and I remember visiting with Steve at Uncle Marvins Birthday. A very modest kind man for all his achievements in life. We are so sorry for your loss Sara
Aunt Elaine and family. I truly believe Steve is flying with God's Angels
Love Patti and Tony
I am saddened to hear this news. My thoughts and prayers go to Steve's family.
I rode bikes with Steve on the Wild Turkey Rides--Thursday nights. He was often there and always in good spirits. I enjoyed learning about his work in the nuclear field and, as a private pilot, I was also eager to hear about his experiences in the military. He was a great dimension to our group.
So sorry to hear of Steve's passing. I worked with Steve while at the Duane Arnold Energy Center and enjoyed working with him. Please accept my condolences to the family. May Steve rest in peace.
Elaine and Swails Family:
My deepest sympathies in the loss of Steve. He was always so helpful in supporting the Pilot Club Annual Breakfast with setup and cleanup of the tables and chairs. That was just one example of his generous heart in supporting his mom and the Pilots. My heart goes out to you and I pray that happy memories will help fill the emptiness you feel.
In sympathy and peace, Jane Driscoll
