Obituary of Gary A. Gruwell
Gary A. Gruwell, 60, of North Liberty, died suddenly, Sunday, December 3, 2017.
There will be an informal gathering for family and friends from 1 to 3 pm Thursday, December 7, 2017, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, followed by graveside services at Oakland Cemetery with Military Honors rendered. Immediately following the graveside service everyone is invited to toast, roast, and remember Gary at Gus’ in Coralville.
Gary was born June 26, 1957, here in Iowa City. He was the son of Edward and Leona Gruwell. He attended Iowa City Schools graduating from Iowa City City High School in 1975. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and was very proud to have served his country and so respected and cherished his fellow Marines. He later graduated from Iowa State University and has owned and operated Garrison Custom Homes for many years.
Gary was a man that enjoyed so many different aspects of life. He was a gourmet cook, enjoyed playing cards, dancing, history, fly fishing, and listening to country music. Many would claim that he was the life of the party, he enjoyed entertaining, finding the patio with Happy Hour and basically living life to its fullest. But if you asked him, he would tell you with a smile that his proudest accomplishment in his life was being dad to his daughter, Abbie.
His family includes his daughter, Abbie, son, Nicholas, his mother, two sisters, and his beloved companion, Lucinda Cook and her family.
