Obituary of Helen L. Darooge

Helen L. Darooge, 94, a resident of Legacy Gardens Memory Care in Iowa City, Iowa, passed away on December 24, 2017.  Helen was born in Pierson, Michigan to Francis and Frances (Burczyk) Korcal on April 25, 1923.  She graduated from Howard City High School in 1940.  Helen held several jobs during the war years, but spent the remainder of her life as a stay-at-home Mom and homemaker.  She was an accomplished seamstress and loved all types of needlework.  Her family and friends will remember Helen for her love of family, her kindness to children and her positive spirit.

 Helen lived in Grand Rapids while raising her family; in Lantana, Florida for many years, and in Iowa City, Iowa for the past 3 ½ years.  She is survived by her children, Mike (Liz) Darooge, Bill (Margie) Darooge, Carol (Chris) Samuelson, and Nancy Darooge; 8 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; 3 brothers and 1 sister; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, 10 of her siblings, and the father of her children, George Darooge.

The family will hold a memorial at a later date.  Suggested memorial are donations to Alzheimer’s Research of to the Hospice of your choice.
