Obituary of Christopher A. Pierce

Christopher A. "Chris" Pierce, 67 of North Liberty died Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at Faith Baptist Church in Iowa City, where visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Tuesday. Military Honors will be provided at the conclusion of the visitation at 7pm on Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Chris's memory. Christopher Allen Pierce was born February 17, 1948, in Guttenberg, Iowa the son of Maurice and June (Davis) Pierce. He graduated from Guttenberg High School in 1968 and later from the University of Dubuque with a BA degree in business. During the Vietnam War Chris served his country in the United States Navy. Chris married Kathy R. Sapp on December 8, 1990, in Campbellsville, KY. Chris, Kathy and their family have lived in various places through the years, and Chris worked in a number of occupations throughout his life. But those that he was most proud of was his days growing up working alongside of his parents and siblings in the family business of Pierce Lumber, a sawmill in Guttenberg. His most recent job was his business, Fibrenew; also one that he was so very proud to have done. Chris was a man of strong faith, always active in his church wherever they lived. Here in Iowa City he and Kathy have been strong members of Faith Baptist Church. Chris loved the outdoors from his childhood, hunting, fishing and boating, anything outside. But most important to him, was his family, his faith and his friends, and those who knew Chris knew this! His family includes his wife, Kathy; his children, Todd and his wife, Kimberly of North Liberty; Angela and her husband, Jason Hedican of Gridley, IL; and Kris and her husband, Scott Pauli of Eldridge, IA; 8 grandchildren, Nathan Pauli, Jordan Pierce, Andrew Pauli, Garrett Hedican, Vivian Hedican, Avery Hedican, Christian Pierce, and Seth Hedican; Chris's siblings, Glee Dianne Palmer-Davis (Denny) of Hansville, WA; Janet Broeg of Springfield, MO; Mitzi Valentine (Ron) of Plano, IA; Jeff Pierce (Vicki) of Belle Plaine, IA; Mick Pierce (Carolyn) of Guttenberg, IA; Jim Pierce of Belle Plaine, IA ; Joe Pierce (Pat) of Rogersville, MO; Paul Pierce (Cindy) of Coronado, CA; Terry Pierce (Adrianna) of Marion, IA; mother-in-law, Martha Sapp-Kessinger of Campbellsville, KY; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. Chris was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, Dick Broeg; and father-in-law, Doug Sapp. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Chris's family and his services.
