Obituary of April A. Tompkins

April A. Tompkins, 93, of Iowa City, died peacefully, Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held 11 am, Monday, February 5th at the Gay & Ciha Funeral Service with burial to follow at Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the funeral service Monday, from 9-11 am at the funeral home.  Online condolences may be shared with her family at www.gayandciha.com.

April Amanda Bollinger was born January 11, 1925 in Iowa City; daughter of John and Pearl (Poggenpohl) Bollinger.  Shortly after high school, April married Ray Tompkins on April 2, 1945 in Sonoma, California.  She worked for over twenty years at Moore Business Forms as well as a time at Owens Brush in Iowa City.  After Ray’s death, April provided in home childcare for several years.

April was the matriarch of her family, the bond that held everyone together over the years.  She had a sweet, loving demeanor and family was always at the top of her list!  She was also very gifted with arts and crafts.

Her family includes her children, Roy Tompkins of Iowa City, Kathy Hoard (Joe) of Alaska, Diana White (Doug) of Iowa City and Pam Tompkins Kutcher (Jim) of Homestead, Iowa; sisters, Shirley Pellissier and Betty Swanson; and 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray and daughter, Connie Megan.
