Mrs. Lois Hanzlik
Dear David and Jim,
Our sincerest condolences on the loss of your Mom. Your folks were both so nice to us when we first moved to Lawrence (in 1971) to join the Medicinal Chemistry department. Your dad was very helpful to me as I was establishing my career, and we collaborated scientifically until he went to Iowa. As I recall he played handball, but took up running after I took him on a backpacking trip in the Rockies. You may remember joining us on a subsequent backpacking trip along with Bruce Bricker, to the Snowmass Wilderness some time around 1977 or so. Your mom was getting heavily involved in pottery in those days, and we still have a number of her pieces in our home and at my office at KU. We kept in touch with her by letters right up through last Christmas when she said it was getting too hard to write all those cards and letters. She was such a straightforward, unassuming, kind and thoughtful person! We think of both of your folks often, and will always remember them with great affection.
Sincerely,
Bob & Lois Hanzlik
