Obituary of Rory Buchmayer
Rory Joseph Buchmayer, 60, of rural Iowa City, passed away Friday, March 9, 2018 at Mercy Hospital Hospice Care, after a long battle with multiple myeloma.
Celebration of Life services will be on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at 12 noon at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. till services at the funeral home. Celebrant Scherie Gates will be officiating. Burial will follow at the family plot in Oakland Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in Rory’s memory.
Rory was born March 14, 1957, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, the son of Karl and Leona (Kleinschimidt) Buchmayer. He attended Newport #3 one room school in kindergarten, than Iowa City Community schools graduating from City High in 1975.
Rory was a gifted carpenter. Over the years he worked at Hy-Vee, Gordon Construction, Iowa Lumber Fabricators and he had his own construction business- Buchmayer Construction. First and foremost he was a farmer. He loved his Century Family farm, his cows, red tractors, and the heritage that went with it.
Rory is survived by his mother, Leona Buchmayer of Solon, and three siblings; Dianna Fuhrmeister (John) of rural Iowa City, Kerry Buchmayer (Barb) of Purdin, Mo., and Barbara Zarifis (Clark) of Iowa City. In addition he had seven nieces and nephews; Amy LaGrange (Jerry) of Iowa City, Lindsey Reimer (Dan) of Cass Lake, MN, Joanna Fletcher (John) of Iowa City, Blair Buchmayer (Clenton Shippen) of Sammamish, WA, Austin Buchmayer (Leah) of Houston, TX, Megan Linnell (Jake) of Tiffin and Adam Zarifis of Iowa City.
Rory was preceded in death by his father, Karl Buchmayer and his nephew, Matt Fuhrmeister.
A special thank- you to Zion Lutheran Church’s “Angels in Apron’s” that brought him food; to faithful family & friends that stayed with him, visited him, took him to appointments, helped him with chores, called and texted him and made staying at the home place possible.
