Obituary of Lisa L. Caronia
Lisa Lyn Bunten Caronia, 50, of Coralville, died Saturday, June 16, 2018, at the Bird House Hospice Home of Johnson County after a long and hard fought battle with breast cancer. Through it all, she kept her amazing sense of humor and positive attitude. She was a devoted Chicago Cubs fan, spending her last days watching them play. Her Cubs won their game Saturday night after passing!
Lisa’s family will greet friends and family on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 from 2:00-5:00 pm at the Fireside Shelter at ST Morrison Park in Coralville for a celebration of Lisa’s life. Memorials may be made in her memory to the Bird House or the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation.
Lisa Lyn Bunten was born August 8, 1967 in Woodstock, Illinois. She graduated from Iowa City West High School in 1985 and proudly earned her RN Degree from Kirkwood Community College. She later worked in a variety of nursing positions in the Iowa City area. Lisa went on to get her BSN and was working on her Master’s degree in nursing when she was diagnosed with stage I breast cancer. As it progressed to stage 4, she continued working on her degree from her bed, and completed all required coursework, only having her practicum to finish for her Master’s degree. Lisa returned home last August to be cared for by her family. She loved getting to know her grandchildren who loved her dearly. We were blessed that she came home to us and will forever cherish the short time we had together.
Her family includes her son Tyler Cole and his wife Anais, grandchildren Emma and William Cole; mother and stepfather Linda and Chuck Abel; father and stepmother, Hugh and Ann Bunten; brother and wife, Michael and Cynthia Bunten; stepsister Sandi Abel (Andy Cilek); stepbrother Tim Abel (Micki Gylten); niece and nephews Audrey Bunten, Jack and Owen Abel and many extended family members. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Merlin and Jeanne Ahrendsen and Hugh and Betty Bunten.
