Obituary of Robert W. Fitch
Robert Wiseman Fitch, formerly of Dickinson, Texas, died peacefully September 13, 2015, at Parkview Manor in Wellman. He was 93.
Bob spent most of his life in and around Houston. He was a Corporal in the Army Air Force during WWII, serving as a radio operator at both the King Ranch in Texas and in Italy. Serving his country gave him many good stories, which he loved to tell – and retell, and retell. As the only person in his family to graduate from high school, Bob developed a passion for reading and learning that led to his earning a Master's of Education degree from Sam Houston State Teacher's College, as it was then known. He married Lois Erixon on September 3, 1955, and taught junior high school math and Texas history in Dickinson for 30 years.
Teaching, reading, and Lois Erixon Fitch were the three great loves of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, his wife and her three incomparable sisters. He is survived by two children: Martin (Kathy) Fitch of Portland, Oregon and Kristine (Jairo) Muñoz of Iowa City; four grandchildren: Erica, Gabe, George and Karen; a much-loved niece, Virginia; and an exceptional brother in law, Harold Erixon of Crossville, Tennessee.
Anne Larew, MD offered incomparable help, companionship and support both to Bob and to his family for the last several years of his life, and we are forever grateful for her presence in our lives. No public services are being planned, memorial donations in his name can be made Iowa City Hospice, to public schools or to libraries. Online condolences may be sent for his family thorugh the funeral home website @ www.gayandciha.com.
