Obituary of Joyce E Freeman

Joyce (Joy) Elaine Johnson Freeman, 93, of Coralville, Iowa died July 4, 2018 at Windmill Manor.

Joy was born on a farm near Forker, MO on January 21, 1925.  Her parents were Paul E. Johnson and Nelle Louden Johnson.  She graduated from the Forker school and attended Truman University in Kirksville, MO where she was the president of her sorority.  She then taught briefly at the Purdin rural school.  She then worked as a sales representative for Walsworth Publishing in Marceline, MO where she met and later married Kenneth G. Freeman of Marceline.  They were married in Oklahoma City on August 15, 1948.  Joy resided in Knoxville, Iowa for 43 years before moving to Tucson, AZ in 1993.  Her husband Ken died in 2003 and Joy later moved to Iowa City and then to Windmill Manor in Coralville.

Joy is survived by her daughter Virginia Gay (Dr. Robert) Blair of Iowa City and son Jack of Oelwein, IA.  Granddaughters Jennifer Blair (Ryan Dye) and Dr. Amy Blair (Robert Fiedler) both of Davenport, IA.  She is also survived by step- great granddaughters Elyse, Molly, and Maddy Dye of Davenport. She is preceded in death by her infant sister, Virginia Lee Johnson, her parents, and her husband Kenneth G. Freeman.

Joy was an excellent seamstress and weaver.  She also painted and was a faithful member of the Methodist Church choir in Knoxville.  She loved to entertain dinner guests with her Italian spaghetti.
