Condolences
I went to Rush Lake Country School with Bette and her sister Donna. I remember a birthday party when we were all together at my house. I read about Bette's passing in the Mankato paper and I would like to send my condolences to the family. Lenore Schnobrich Saint Peter, MN
For the lady that I was lucky to call Ma, thank you for all the great times. You treated us like family and were always there with a good story and some laughs ( and usually some food). I learned a lot from you and Pa and can’t help smiling when talking about all the conversations we had. Know that you made a great impression on me and you will always be missed.
Bette, Bob and family lived next door when we lived in Garner, IA. What a wonderful, thoughtful lady. Bette and I spent many times visiting. She was very talented in many areas. Our sincerely sympathy to the family.

To Bette’s children: I was a L&D nurse at Mercy in Mason City and was honored to be at several of your births. I thought it was a joy to care for your mom. She loved having each one of you! I’d get word we had a labor patient and is look at the name and say “Bette Schmidt?” Your Dad would say “Karen’s here!” We’d always have a good laugh. I also mourned at the loss of her twin sons. I know you will miss her. May God comfort you during this time, but know she is LOL in Heaven!
I extend to Bette's family my deepest sympathy. Your mother was a good friend. Her talents , too many to name.
God bless each of you as you grieve. each in your own heart.
I am so sorry to hear of Bette's passing. She was one of the best people I have ever known. Her loss will be felt by countless others whose life she has touched. My prayers are with you.
I am so sorry to hear of Bette's death. She was a joy to work with. I always looked up to her as a mother because of the fine family she raised. The FC school district greatly appreciated all the work that Bette did for the theater department.
Thinking of all of you. I always loved the entire Schmidt family.
To our dear friend Kari and the whole Schmidt family,
We are deeply saddened over the lost of our very best friend, Bette. Even though we’ve only been neighbors for a little over a year, we became instant family and it was as if we’ve been friends all our life. She was so kind to us, as was Keri, and we had lot’s of fun and laughs in our get togethers at each other’s apartments and with activities at Keystone. We will greatly miss her bright smile and kindness. Wishing peace and comfort to the whole family.

My sincere sympathy to Pastor Mike and all of Bette’s family. I did not know her well, but I do know what a loss it to lose your loved one. Love and sympathy, Charlotte
Bette did a lot of alterations (especially shortening slacks, & sleeves) for me over the years, & seldom let me pay for it--saying, "It's a labor of love". But probably the most generous, loving gift she ever gave me was to pay for a mini-concert by Three Men And A Mike for my mother as she spent the last days of her life in Mercy Hospital in Mason City. Bette knew how much my mother loved their music, as did I, and it was SO comforting for all of us. The quartet also sang for her funeral about a week later.
I am broken hearted! Bette was such a wonderful friend & she, along with our coffee bunch, shared many happy & sad stories, and lots of laughter over our morning coffees. I missed her so very much after she left Forest City, and now I will look forward to seeing her again in Heaven. It's comforting to know she's together again with the twins, Bob & her parents.
Enjoy the memories, and the peace that only God can give you at this time.
Love to you all,
Karen & John
