Obituary of Lisa Hood-Gray

Lisa Hood-Gray was born in Chicago, IL, on February 1, 1966, to William Hood Sr. and the late O’neil Simmons Hood.  She was the youngest of three children.  At an early age Lisa found Christ and was baptized, her faith would remain very important to her for the rest of her life.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 10, 2018 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City.  Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.  Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. In 1990, Lisa met the love of her life and best friend, Ronnie Gray Sr.  They raised six children together – Jennifer, Velma, Kitty, Ronnetta, Jalisa, and Ronnie Jr.  They married on November 2, 2002.  In January of 2008, Lisa and Ronnie moved their family to Iowa City, IA, to provide a better environment and better opportunities for their children. 

In Iowa, Lisa would join Tabernacle Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Royce Phillips.

Family was very important to Lisa and she loved spending time with them.  She helped to raise 11 grandchildren and multiple nieces and nephews.  She loved to cook for her family and friends and she made friends wherever she went.  Lisa was a great person with a big heart and a warm smile.  She would always have kind and encouraging words for you and was always ready to help anyone if she thought she could. 

Lisa was loved by so many people and will be truly missed.  She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Ronnie Gray Sr., her father, William Hood Sr., mother-in-law, Fannie Mae Gray; five daughters, Jennifer (Bernard) Hood, Ronnetta Gray, Jalisa Gray, Kitty hood of Iowa City, IA, and Velma (Phillip) Hood of Chicago, IL; a son, Ronnie Gray Jr., of Iowa City; a sister, Kitty Hood of Memphis, T, and a brother, William Hood Jr., of Memphis, TN.  In addition, she leaves 11 grandchildren, two lifelong friends, Jaqueline Keller and Valerie Prunty, and many more nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Lisa is preceded in death by her mother, O’neil Simmons Hood, her brother Herbert Winding, father-in-law Lewis Gray; brother-in-law Ernest Gray, and sister-in-law, Amanda Gray.
